contained the area slavery could spread to. The North had the power to contain slavery. This gave them more power and superiority against the South. Congress could have passed more proclamations like that to slavery becoming a minority. Then slavery would have subsided, like what happened to the Native Americans. America slowly invaded and took more land from the Natives. They could have done the same with slavery except; they could have placed strict laws. The war might have lasted a few more years, but the North would have won. Confederates were also a new country in a sense. So they had a new army with not much experience. The North had members and congressmen that had ultimate power and were the USA, therefore, a better army. More power the better chance of winning. The North would have won the war at some point, if not 1865.
According to me, the South did not have a chance of forcing the North to accept them as a new country. The North had more industrialization and power from congress. Since the confederate is a new country, they have new congress members and different thoughts. The North, on the other hand, had more experienced Congressmen. All the Northerners stuck with Lincoln and were ready to go to the end of the road for victory. The Northerners had more men and more tactics from General Grant than what General Lee had. General Lee’s goals were more offensive than defensive. The North’s army was way better, which would have given the South a better chance if they defended. General Lee’s goals only wanted more land and get the North out of the land. This led there to being no opportunity for the South to win the war.
