Gettysburg led to everyone believing that the South was going to win the Civil War.
The North wasn’t crushing the South like they thought they would. The South wasn’t necessarily winning but they weren’t being beaten so the perception of them “winning” came about. The South had claimed to have better military leaders and better tactics during battle. They Won the First Battle of Bull Run, the Second Battle of Bull Run, Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg. These battles
were long fought battles that proved to the Union that they were a force to be reckoned with.
The Union was falling apart because they were struggling to find a good general to rely on. General McClellan was a very stern man and only wanted to do things his way. Lincoln did not support McClellan and later fired him from his general spot. Gettysburg was an important battle because it was the turn around of the war. If the south won Gettysburg, the war would have been over much sooner.Because of all the disappointing news the North kept receiving, they didn’t believe that they could win. This truly set the tone for everyone to believe the Confederacy was going to Win the Civil War.
Once Lincoln worked with all of the Generals and they worked on tactics for the North they began to conquer all of the other battles. Once the Northern Military blockaded the Southern coasts and accomplished the Anaconda plan, they eliminated all the help the European states would have offered to the Southern states.
Once the North figured things out, the Confederacy had no chance to win the Civil War. People knew that once the North damaged the South enough, the could finish the war.
