“Oh! I was ill, so I didn’t come!”
Dude, nobody’s buying that, no one’s that dumb.
Some other day, some other place,
Somebody will remember your face.
Liars should have a good memory,
As their mind will never be free.
Someday you’ll have to count on your instinct,
Because you can never give away a hint.
A successful lie should feel genuine,
Or else, the hard work goes into the bin.
Be it creating a new one,
Or existing improvation.
One who says – “I never lie!”
Is the biggest liar of all.
Hiding the lie is an art,
Because guilt is always there from the start.

Memory and Eyewitness Testimony are two concepts which are studied within the topic of cognitive psychology. It is important to investigate these processes to aid in the understanding of how individuals cognitively process ideas and how this may affect specific behaviors. From a psychological perspective, memory can be defined as, “The capacity to retain and store information” (holah.co.uk, 2006). The further researches into the topic of memory allow it to greatly contribute toward societies' legal system, specifically in the sense of Eyewitness Testimony. Individuals may feel confident towards their memory abilities but according to many researchers, one's memory is not always reliable. (Bartlett, 1932) believed that memory is unreliable due…

False memories are memories of events or situations that did not, in fact, occur. These recollections of past events are unintentionally false. Often times, it may result from a questioned phrased differently, or a story told often enough that the person begins to believe that it actually happened recalling these events in depth. When asked what happened, they will be able to give vivid descriptions and details of what they remember occurred; however, in reality, these events never truly happened. Reality monitoring is used to help determine what is real from what someone may have just imagined happened. Also included in false memory is the concept of source amnesia. This occurs when one is able to remember the events or information correctly but unable to identify the source of where the information came from correctly. False memories can have a large impact on our lives and must be looked at when addressing the following question:…

The research of false memory syndrome was a newly emerged field of study in the early 1900s. Recent studies have established the proneness of the brain’s ability to misconstrue information to fit what relates to an individual's surroundings. Although psychologists have already confirmed the malleability of the human mind, the question arises of how and why false memories are created (Laney & Loftus 2013). False memory syndrome describes “a condition in which a person has an apparent recollection of an event that did not actually occur” (Dictionary). The conflicting ideas on the creation of these false memories has created a divide in psychologists since the mid 1900s (Laney & Loftus 2013). Through years of minimal studies, experimental methods have focused on the influence of hypnosis in the creation of memories. As studies have progressed however, the focus has moved to an individual's past traumatic events along with their cognitive fantasy proneness…

A false memory is a mental experience that is mistakenly taken to be a veridical representation of an event from one’s personal past. Memories can be false in relatively minor ways and in major ways that have profound implications for oneself and others. False memories arise from the same side of your brain as do true memories and hence their study reveals basic mechanisms of memory. Early psychology researchers have been baffled by memory distortions. Just as the memory is made, it can be distorted in the same sense. A timeless example would be of Bartlett’s, 1930, studies in which he spoke of a fable from an unknown country and asked the people who he told it to, to recall it from memory. Bartlett noted that the memory errors found from the…
