Christ and His Brethren (7:1–13)
Setting (7:1–13). “After this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life. But when the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, ‘You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things show yourself to the world.’ For even his own brothers did not believe in him.”

The Jews are more determined than ever to kill Jesus because he broke the Sabbath.
Feast of Tabernacles
One of the three national feasts.
Date set in Lev. 23:33–43. It began on 15 Tisri, early October.
Two purposes
Natural time for a harvest festival.
People would live in booths, temporary shelters made of palm branches outside the city to remind them of God’s care for 40 years in the wilderness.
Every Jewish male was expected to attend the feast. (Lev. 16:16). “Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feasts of Tabernacles. No man should appear before the Lord empty-handed.”
The 3 most important days in the Old Testament were not held on
Saturday but on Sunday
