Life as a Water Molecule
Hi, my name is water molecule! H2O for short. I live in the bottom of a well. I come from 2 hydrogen atoms, but I have an oxygen atom in me! Down here in my well, we have a swell time together. In our liquid state, we are not too far apart, nor too packed together. It’s really great being a liquid! I feel bad for my cousin CO2. He is probably sublimating into a gas from a solid, or as a gas, freezing back into a solid. He has no melting point, only a freezing and boiling point. I’m SO glad I will never be exposed to sublimation!!!! It’s great to have a definite volume, but no definite shape, so I’m able to swish around in my well with billions of other water molecules! It’s the middle of March, every night it gets so cold we freeze. I don’t like being a solid with a definite shape, we can barely move! So over time, we get closer together, me and my molecule-mates until we reach our freezing points. I now know we are a solid. We stay like this until dawn, when the sun’s golden rays shine down through the walls of our well. Soon enough we get to our melting points and are able to move again! So we keep on freezing and melting until May, which I like a lot because we get to be liquids all day and all night! During May it gets really hot, but that spring I was in for a surprise! It was a really hot day, during noon the sun shines right into the center of my well. I could feel myself becoming farther and farther away from the other molecules. I was evaporating into the air! So free, getting hyper off of heat energy! I was a gas! No definite volume or shape! It was so fun to be free, I didn’t feel so bad for CO2 anymore!
That day, I was one in billions because I underwent evaporation, and later on, I was one in billions because I underwent condensation! I knew i was condensing. I was getting closer and closer to all my other molecules. By chance, I then condensate into my own little well, where my molecule buddies ask me about my trip. When they asked me if

Before it was capped, the well 5000 feet (1500 meters) below the sea surface leaked at least 200 million gallons of oil. (Some estimates are far larger.) One tactic BP used was to spray hundreds of thousands of gallons of DISPERSANTS into the gushing clouds of oil and onto surface of the ocean. Dispersants are a mixture of organic solvents and detergents which enable the oil to mix into the water. While this largely succeeded in getting the oil “out of sight, out of mind” by diluting it into a much larger volume of water below the surface, and helped increase of speed of chemical and bacterial breakdown of the oil somewhat, much of the oil is still there, just spread out more, and the dispersants themselves are also quite toxic. The full environmental damage of this spill and its “cleanup” will take years to…

Life is not two reactants yielded by a change in temperature or a deoxyribonucleic sequence on a page. Like my unknown biological parents, life is an unknown substance and that must be skeptically retried and perfected over a course of generations to come. Day 1 –Evaporation- My parents are dead. Actually they just disappeared. I heard them talking about getting warm and then they just disappeared. I heard some older water molecule calling it evaporation. I did not like the sound of it but I had to find my parents. My friend Zach agreed to help me. Today we were watching sharks attack a school of salmon when it happened, I felt weirdness. Everything started to warm up, like my parents had said. Zach felt it too. Looks like we were going to evaporate together. Other water molecule started to go up around us and then we were floating.…

    * The freezing point of water is 0 degrees Centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit). More accurately, 0 degrees is the point at which water is melting at the same rate it is freezing, creating a balance. At 0 degrees, water molecules are moving very slowly, and a solid begins to form out of the water, which is ice.…

This time we entered another slide, tube like thing from the top of it. This time we mixed yet again with other liquids. Once again the watery slimy liquid that I saw in the human wet cave is back. These liquids were from everywhere though, I have a feeling that's where they all go to come together. We are embarking on another journey, this time with everyone. We enter yet another set of tubes. But this time we went our separate ways. All the water that I had mentioned was removed from our cluster. I was also released from my cluster. I had never been so happy in my life. I met up back again with the water and we travel down the tubes. As we’re going down I see a little light, and I thought to myself, “Is this it, have I escaped?”. We went down faster and faster and I cannot believe my eyes, I SAW THE LIGHT. In a matter of seconds I was out. I recall saying, “Thank you paper god! I thought I was a…

It was just a normal day, floating around in the sky, lit brightly by the sun, with my best friends Oxygen 2 and Carbon. I, myself, am an oxygen molecule. We were floating near the ground, under a green plant. Suddenly, the green shade above me opened and sucked us in! We floated through the stoma, into the chloroplast, which is in the upper layer of the leaf. We looked around as we passed the lower epidermis, spongy layer, and the vein/vascular system. My friends and I was just floating around in the chloroplast until something terrible happened. My friends were separated from me! I was thrown into a circle of molecules. Looking around me I could see 6 carbon, 12 hydrogen, and 5 oxygen molecules. This was when I realized, I was a part of…

How can we tell if an organism is alive or not? Is a virus , prion, virod, or a rock a living organism? What is life? Biologist have studied what makes organism alive for many years and have come to the conclusion the there are nine characteristics of life. Each characteristic has a property which applies to how and organism is alive. Life characteristics are as follows: order, metabolism, motility, responsiveness, reproduction, development, heredity, evolution, and adaptation. All of the characteristics of life together are what makes an organism alive.…
