If this were given to a youth offender that means that they would spend childhood to death in prison, never experiencing the world out of prison. It would not be just to give a child this sentence, but it would be lawful to give an adult this sentence as they have already figured what they want to do with life and have decided to commit crimes where a child may not know what they are doing and are committing crimes out of peer pressure. Having a child be taught through incarceration in a juvenile prison is what is supposed to be done and is most likely the reason why children are not normally given the punishment of life sentences.
Certain allowances for certain crimes should be given if the child has committed a minor crime. Major crimes like statutory rape and murder should be given no room for allowance. But crimes like minor cases of battery, petty theft, and the likes are crimes that should be given allowances and not put children in prison for tens of years but should still have them taken out of society to learn the lesson that you should not commit crimes and if you do you will be punished.
Therefore, imprisoning children in the same facility is a bad idea. It can cause serious physical trauma along with trouble developing a healthy physiological mindstate. Along with giving youthful offenders certain allowances for minor criminal indulgences. Also giving a child a life sentence without parole
