The story of Lincoln offers a leadership style to aspire to with many principles that are applicable to nursing practice. The book had a positive message and provided an opportunity to reflect on current leadership skills and accordingly ways to improve those skills. The reading provided the chance to reflect on what it takes to be an effective leader. It also provides tangible difference between a leader and manager. My “take away” message from the book is the important of being a visible leader. As a leader being in touch with people a serve and work with is the best way to get information. Leaders need to be committed to the organization cause and interpersonal collaboration. A message I took away from this reading was never act out of vengeance or spite. The book also offers therapeutic ways to handle anger such as writing letters to get out frustration. As a nursing leader I aspire to consistently display kindness and empathy to everyone I interact
