Introduction
According to Plato, leadership is not just a power or decision-making authority; it is the system and process developed to establish the culture and how things are done in an organization or government. The nature of leadership should be driven by what is right and what is just. Plato believed that a monarch who served the best interest of the citizens was preferred to direct democracies that act to serve their own personal interest. According to Plato, leaders should serve the good of the people and not the good of the rulers or themselves. In Plato’s Republic, jobs and roles of each citizen were determined by the state. Only certain citizen classes were provided and education. These classes were determined by the citizens’ role in society. Today everyone has a responsibility and duty that they must carry out in order for a balance to present in society. In K-12 District, every stakeholder has a role in which he or she must fill and duties he or she must carry out in order for the school district to be successful. The failure to carry out these roles and duties will result in the poor performance, low moral, and division among stakeholders. When looking for a new superintendent, it is important that this person has good moral character, exhibit fairness, be a visionary, responsible, just, patient, and have virtues. The district needs a superintendent that is going to put the districts needs before their own and from the influences of outside sources. The new superintendent needs to be fair and just in hiring practices as well as other aspects of the job. The new superintendent needs to have vision of how to get K-12 District back to being one of the best districts in the state.
The K-12 District needs to find ways to build moral with all employees. Having employees that are happy and want to come to work will help to increase student achievement and help the district return to being one of the best in the state. Providing employees with support will also help to boost morale. Providing teachers with extra professional development is not a way to increase student achievement. Any professional development needs to be concentrated on areas in the district that are in need of
