The reason why I chose to take up the topic regarding the link between Mood Disorders and Creativity was because I wanted to dwell on the optimistic or the identity forming aspect of the outcomes of artist's suffering from disorders. Many artists that have been mentioned were known for their individualistic choice of art and their talent was definately influenced by the disorders they were suffering from. I was always very curious regarding the various affecting factors that ultimately result in master pieces and after researching, it was extremely interesting to realize that there was a prominent link between creativity and disorders. Therefore, the desire to make sense of the various questions that would frequently prompt me to ponder, resulted in me finalizing on this very topic.
My personal life has been greatly influenced by art and various forms of it. This very date, I'm studying Psychology and just by seeing the relation between the two prominent factors crossing paths makes complete sense and ignites the reason to research, collect data and evaluate. There were many reviews written about this topic and what contributed to make my data rich was the literature written about Van Gogh, Beethoven, Virginia Woolf and Judy Collins. Therefore, it made me realize that alot of people have potentialized their thoughts regarding the topic and have ended up answering my questions.
As seen, the effect of a mood disorder mainly lies in the variety of behavioural changes an individual experiences and art being one of the major platforms for expression of self, allowes their different thought proccesses, identitites, feelings and beliefs to be relfected in a just manner.
