Now in this potent follow-up about his continued efforts to stay clean, Nic writes directly about his eye-opening stays at rehab centers, tragic relapses, and realizations about what it means to be a young person living with addiction. During the start of the book, _We all Fall Down: Living with Addiction,_ Nic Sheff was 23 years old. He never really had a living because he started using drugs early in his life. In 2009, Nic worked at a coffee shop while trying to stay sober. Eventually, he had to quit because of how badly he embarrassed himself while on the job (this was due to the amount of drugs and alcohol he consumed). This book followed a few of Nic Sheff's years of living with addiction. The book _We all Fall Down: Living with addiction,_ took place in a few different states. For the most part, Nic was in Arizona (for a rehabilitation center), South Carolina (living with his second girlfriend in the book), and LA California. He went to South Carolina with his girlfriend and started hiding marijuana and alcohol from her. He couldn't admit he had a problem and wouldn't accept any help until one night he overdosed with alcohol, marijuana and pills so much while his girlfriend was a work that he almost died. He woke up the next morning and smoked another bowl so he could function normally. Nobody found out about this, but he realized how much his life was falling out of control. In fact when he relapsed this time he said the following lines: "It all falls down. Just like that. Every f***ing time," (Sheff). By this point it was clear to tell that he knew he had a problem. Since nobody else knew about half the things he would get away with, he took his own fate in his hands. He contacted his dad a few times and set up a few meetings with a therapist. He found a treatment plan without the 12 step program (which he dreaded and couldn't understand). This was the first time he seeked for help for himself. Up until this point his Father had forced him to go to rehab facilities that he always dreaded. He knew that they only way he could overcome his addiction was if he submitted himself to a less intense care that he would actually want to participate in.
