Little Rock is not only known for being the capital of Arkansas, but also known as one of the most dangerous cities in America. Little Rock, being the eighth most dangerous city in the US, has a population of about 198,647 people. With that, there has been approximately 1,415 crimes, with the rate being 712.32 per 100,000 residents.
I, being from Arkansas, have regularly thought of Little Rock as an extremely scary and threatening place. I am interested in learning why it is so unsafe because crime rates continue to go up every year, and knowing this is one of the world’s biggest problems, I believe there needs to be a change. I am going to major in criminology, because learning about crime and the psychology of it interests me substantially. If a person grows up around gangs and crime, there is a higher chance they will develop more violent thoughts than the average individual. If a person's family is poor, wanting to harm someone that has more money is a thought that comes across one's mind, which could ultimately lead to criminal behavior. Growing up in an environment where parents do not care what their children do causes the children to act out for attention. This is with them throughout their whole life, and even as adults they feel like what they do doesn’t matter because they were not disciplined as a child.
