Living With A Roommate
Living with a roommate
Having a roommate is an unpleasant experience. Everybody is instructed differently and has his own way of running a household. Having to learn everyone’s character can also be a challenging within itself because one can be different than one is used to. For me, I have found it quite difficult to live with other people because they tend to not to pick up after themselves, they also have no regard for your feelings, and they could be careless about your personal belongings. I have categorized the roommates that I have lived with into three categories: A dirty roommate, disrespectful roommate and hazardous roommate.

The first roommate that I have encountered was by far dirtiest I had ever lived with. He would not take out any trash, even if I were not over there, it would have been piled up all over the floor. Because he cooked in the room and never do the dishes, so I had to do them. One day I come into the room from classes and I noticed an awful smell. To my surprise, I found out that it was his sports shoes, and wet clothes. He had played football for two days ago, and I thought he would have washed all his sports clothes as well as the shoes, or put them out to dry, but to my concentration he put them all under the bed and left overnight. I could not bear with that awful smell so the next morning I got up and cleaned them all.
The second roommate that I have lived with was a very disrespectful one. He would come into the room around 3 to 4 at night. That would have been fine if it was not for the reality that I had to get up early to go classes. Besides that, he gave his friends a spare key of us, so he and his friends would come over regardless even if anyone was in the room or not. One day I was looking for something of mine, so I asked him where it was. He told me that one of his friends had come into the room and walked out with it. To my surprise, not only did they leave with my item but they had also eaten some of my biscuits that I

At first sight, these two works have little things in common. The settings are very different one from another and the narratives depicted different times and also different historical contexts. Mary Rowlandson was a Puritan woman, wife and daughter of Puritans’ reverends, established in Lancaster, Massachusetts, in the colony called New England. The book entitled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson (1682) reports her captivity – with her children – by Indians during King Philip’s War in 1676. She was captive eleven weeks that ended with her release after undergo extreme conditions in wilderness, even the death of her youngest child in Mary’s arms the first week of the captivity, and only with the companion of a bible.…

The first type of person I encountered was the dirtiest I had lived with. She refused to take out the trash every week, leaving me to do the dirty work. If it were not for me, trash would have been piled up all over the floor. I even had to empty the trash can in her room. In the beginning of our relationship as roommates, we agreed we would do our own dishes. That agreement lasted a total of three days. Not only did she leave dirty dishes in the sink, she would leave them all over the house. Although there was an attempt to stifle the urges, I caved in and cleaned up all the dishes when I noticed more bugs appearing around the house. I lived like this for about three months and moved in with the next roommate.…

This is not fair because some people who just do not like their roommates are able to switch rooms and others that actually get into fights with their roommates are not always able to switch rooms. To fix this problem, I would use the conflict resolution system of mediation. I would use mediation because the roommates would be able to talk their problems out and see if they can come to an agreement without them having to switch rooms. This process I would call Roommate Mediation and this process would work by when one of the roommates is having a problem with the other one they would go to their RA on their floor. The RA would then ask both people if they are willing to attend a mediation session. If they both agree to mediation, then the RA would ask them when it would be an appropriate time for them to meet. The mediation would take place in the study rooms which there is one on each floor of the residence hall. I think this would be a good place for the mediation process to take place because the rooms are quiet, the roommates would feel safe, and there is plenty of…

Dorm life. Most of us will go through college with the life changing experience of living in the dorms. Although it's mandatory for freshmen to live in the dorm, the social life of it is not too bad. The one major problem most face though is the meal plan. Meal plans are designed to allow students the freedom to eat anywhere on campus and not worry about having cash. There are many options to choose from on campus and the meal plan covers all of our restaurants. Meal plans are based on a weekly cycle and will reset each Sunday at midnight. "Meals" may be used at Couch Restaurants, which is an all-you-care-to-eat facility. When Couch Restaurants are closed you may use a meal for meal exchange at any of our other dining…

My grandma not wanting him to live alone decided that she was going to move in with him because he lived in a very big house all by himself. He has an HVAC business and all he drives are vans and big pick-up trucks. His pick-up truck is a 6 wheel machine that wants to be a full size moving truck when he grows up. To get in it you have to put a step ladder or be at least 6 feet tall. If you take a short ride you will become impregnated by the diesel fumes of his engine, driving that truck can only make me think of the pick-up truck commercials where big muscular men drive these huge trucks as if they were actually driving tanks. When you see a truck pass by you, the last person you would expect to be driving it would be an 83 year old woman. This is what happened the first Sunday that I was in town visiting my uncle; everyone got dressed up with the best Sunday outfit, and of course my grandma looked like she was going to an Easter photoshoot. I was expecting to go out and get a taxi to go to church but instead we came out and found my grandma with the truck running tell us to hurry up because we had to go to church. We never figured out how she got in by herself because we had to help each other get…

This theory comes to explain the uncertainty among people who communicate with each other and how different types of communication will help to reduce the uncertainty. As a starting point, the developers of this theory (Charles Berger and Richard Calabrese) stated that uncertainty is an unpleasant feeling, which people prefer to avoid as much as they can. Every person has been confronted with the feeling of uncertainty, rather if it was when arriving to new a destination or more commonly when meeting a new person. In order to reduce the unpleasant feeling, people tend to seek information about the uncertain and by that creating more comfortable feelings, and more predictable relationships in case of communication with other people. “Coping with uncertainty is a central issue in any face-to-face encounter, whether interactants are conscious of this fact or not” (Uncertainty Reduction Theory Then and Now. Charles R. Berger), but when the uncertainty is reducing automatically the feeling of attraction (not only physically) start to emerge.…

We had to sleep with our grand-parents. And by we, I mean six boys in a small room with two adults. Can you imagine how cramp, stuffy, and hard that is? There were only one twin bed and a bunk bed. There was three other rooms; One was for my parents, the other was for my five sisters, and the third one, my mom use it for storage because it was connected to the backyard door. We only had one A/C in our living room, and it was an old warn out A/C. In the hot blazing summer, we had to sleep in rows to get the cool air coming from the A/C because it wasn’t powerful enough to cool down the whole living room. It was so hot in our living room that even mosquito’s dried up at the corner of the room.…

The mom and her son had this very irritating habit of leaving dirty dishes in the sink. I really tried to ignore the inconvenience. I had to constantly remind myself that it was a temporary situation. However, when the son started to steal the children’s food and snacks, I decided to have a talk with him. Sadly, he didn’t listen to me and carried on with his thieving ways. Eventually, I had to tell his mom what was going on, and that made things a bit awkward for a while. O well!…

The spring of my senior year was a great time in my life. I was going to graduate in two months, I had gotten accepted into the college I wanted to go to, and the only thing left to complete was the final paperwork for whether I was going to be a commuter or resident student. I would have never thought about that question because I just assumed that I'd live in the dorms, but since the college was close enough to home, I could commute too. After going through many discussions with friends and family, the clincher was when my Aunt Gail said, "When you live in the dorms, you get the full college experience-friends, freedom, and fun." Well, that was more than enough for me to put a big "X" in the box next to resident. I think that everyone entering college as a freshman should live in the dorms for their first year.…
