Loaded Laddle

When looking for food on campus you have many choices, from fast food to a salad, however, many students are not aware that there is a free food service at dal. For this assignment I chose to volunteer and further my knowledge about the Loaded Ladle, a food organization at Dalhousie. This organisation was created in 2010 to show the students that they do not need to pay corporate companies for their food on top of paying thousands of dollars for their tuition. The leaders of the Loaded Ladle were extremely helpful in explaining why this organization was created; I volunteered at the Loaded Ladle for over an hour on October 27th, a Thursday making this one of their serving days; my job was to serve plate the food. They serve food out of their brand new facility in the Student Union Building on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting at 1pm. There are many volunteering opportunities with them, you can help prep on Monday for their weekly meals, help cook the food before their service, help serve the meals or help clean after serving about 200 people per service days. One thing that surprised me was the amount of volunteers they had, the first time I had tried to volunteer they had to turn me
I realized this while serving and running out of plates until people would bring their plates back to get washed. Just last week, a big portion of their plates broke when they were piled up too high waiting to get washed. This now means that people need to wait longer for food when they are washing plates which is why more than ever the group encourages people to bring their own plates and containers. Unfortunately, since the budget was made at the beginning of the year they may not be able to purchase new plates until next
