Loneliness In Of Mice And Men

Steinbeck’s main topic is loneliness, he shows how different characters in the story are lonely by telling how and why each character is lonely. The author makes the story exactly how it would be if it were real. The story shows how people are lonely because of the conditions they have. They all have a problem that causes them to be lonely. Thesis- Steinbeck shows several of his characters as lonely, including Lennie, Curley’s Wife, and Candy because they all have different people that leave them and make them lonely.

The first character that I will talk about is Lennie. Lennie is traveling with George but Lennie is slow and George thinks Lennie is not good for anything. George goes off and leaves Lennie at the ranch where he causes trouble. He thinks George is trying to get rid of him because he says,”If I was alone I could live so easy,I could get a job an work with no trouble at all.” All of this is what makes Lennie so lonely.
He is lonely because he is a black man that nobody really wants to be around,he doesn’t really talk to anybody until Lennie walks into his bunkhouse. He tells Lennie that the other men that are white don’t let him into their bunks and he doesn’t ever let anybody in his. He actually does talk to Lennie about things so they actually became friends.
