Overview
John Henry, the Internal HRD Consultant of GSP Bank has hired you to help him improve the quality of communication in his branch. As a business communications consultant, you are required to prepare a report assessing the current state of communication in the organization and give John specific recommendations to address any issues you might identify in your analysis.
In preparing the report, you are required to analyze the attached case along with the results of an employee survey that was conducted recently. You will also need to conduct a literature review on the key concepts identified in the case and surveys. The recommendations you give should be clearly justified and flow logically from the conclusions you draw from your analysis.
Case Study
John Henry was astounded. What did they mean, ‘We don’t need to go into that!’? It seems to be such a sensible suggestion. To make it worse, after the meeting, no one seemed to want to talk to him or even be near him. Perhaps he had made a mistake in taking a promotion to this department.
Six months ago John had felt quite satisfied with himself. He had finally been promoted to the position of Internal HRD Consultant. Since he started his new position 6 months ago, he had conducted a number of successful training programs for junior employees. The participants had provided good reviews of the programs. However, especially when the training programs covered interpersonal skills, the participants were unanimous in their recommendations—their section managers all needed to attend these development programs. The general consensus of the participants was that their managers were grossly under-skilled in interpersonal skills.
As part of his duties, John was minutes secretary to the branch’s Training and Development Committee. This committee was made up of the HRD manager, all the other section managers and the assistant director of the branch.
