World War I was one of the greatest wars that ever occurred. It was known as the “Great War”. The long term causes of this war were: Militarianism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. These were very big causes because the countries liked to show off how much land /territory they had. Also, all of the countries, showed great pride in the way they worked, thought they were the best. Militarianism plays in when they would talk about how amazing, or extraordinary their military was. The alliances that the European countries had at the time was a bit confusing, for example if one country decided they were going to war with another country, all of the countries in Europe would get involved in less than 3 months.
The Spark for the Great War Serbia and Austria-Hungary were not on good terms, at all. The archduke of Austria-Hungary, and his wife Sophia, were assassinated on June 28th, 1914. The declared war on Serbia because of the unsatisfying apology. Serbia didn’t know about this terrorist group. Franz Ferdinand and Sophia were assassinated by Gravillo Princip, part of a terrorist group called the “Black Hand”. There were originally 6 members in the assassination but there were some things that happen for there to only be one left. The couple was murdered during the royal parade in Sarajevo, capital of the Austrian province Bosnia. The last words that the heir said to his wife were, “Stay alive for the children”.
