Furlough: A vacation or leave of absence granted to an enlisted person.
A.W.O.L.: Away from military duties without permission, but without the intention of deserting. A soldier or other military person who is absent from duty without leave.
Colonnade: A series of trees planted in a long row, as on each side of a driveway or road.
Consternation: a sudden, alarming amazement or dread that results in utter confusion; dismay.
Stockade: A defensive barrier consisting of strong posts or timbers fixed upright in the ground. A barrier or enclosure formed from upright wooden posts or stakes, esp. as a defence against attack or as a means of confining animals.
Offensive: Causing someone to feel deeply hurt, upset or angry.
2) The story is written almost entirely in dialogue. How does this narrative technique affect the pace of the story?
It affects the pace of the story because it slows you down to absorb what is going on in the story, and makes you think and feel what the character is. It gives you a whole new type of perspective that you wouldn’t have thought about.
3) List three adjectives to describe Newt. Explain, with references of the story, why you the story, why you selected each adjective.
I would explain Newt as a very calm person, I would say this because when he went to tell Catherine that he loved her, even though she told her she didn't love him, he kept calm and under control, when he could have easily started a tantrum. He is also very courageous because it would take a lot of guts to ever tell someone that you love him, and then later on and turn himself in for escaping. Even though he waited many years to finally tell Catherine that he loved her, he always kept faithful that maybe she loved him in return. If he wasn’t faithful, I don’t think he would have ever told her how he
