Slide 1 – ‘Mahtab’s Story’ is an eventful novel, full of powerful and demanding moments. Throughout this novel Mahtab learns new responsibilities and takes control and learns how to grow up in her dark and complicated story. Slide 2 – ‘Mahtabs Story’ told in third person, has the author Libby Gleeson telling the story from an outside perspective by letting the audience know from ‘Mahtab ached.’ The novel is through Mahtabs eyes even though the story isn’t true; this presents Mahtab as a fictional character. Having a limited perspective of the story helps us identify Mahtab as a more naïve teenage girl and gives a more in-depth description of her and lets the audience see things from her perspective.…

In this story in particular, the characters leave you speechless with their actions. This story has a flow due to how the characters talk. They talk with improper grammar, but that’s what makes it unique.”Ain’t nothing wrong with that is it?” Raheem and the narrator have a lot of mini fights, because Raheem is skipping school and “checking” out other girls. “His eyes crawl over to them good girls.” The author doesn’t give us a lot of knowledge about the narrator; though I’d prefer if she did. This will allow us readers to connect to the story more. Overall I think the characters are a perfect fit to the story.…

Humorous yet serious, Peter Madsen’s “When Mommy Goes Off to Fight a War,” reveals the truth about parenthood while using descriptive rhetorical devices. Throughout the story, the devices were used to convey his message about parenthood and his insightful experiences. For instance, towards the beginning of the story, Madsen is going to take his daughter to get her hair done. This was a task that was not on the “list of all the things that I should remember” made by his wife who was away at war. He believed that was prepared enough to this on his own, but he quickly learned that this was no easy task.…
