Lord Of The Flies Chapter 3 Analysis

Summary – Chapter 3 starts with Jack alone in the woods hunting for pigs. Even though he tries really hard he fails to kill a pig, so he decides to go back where Ralph and Simon are trying to build shelters. Once he gets back him and Ralph get into a fight over what is more important killing a pig or building a shelter but Simon interrupts them and says that some of the kids still believe in the beastie. Instead of worrying about the beastie, Jack starts to talk about how they should paint their faces to sneak up on the pigs and Ralph starts to talk about the fire they bulit on top of the mountain. After they are done arguing again they notice that Simon isn't their anymore and isn't anywhere to be seen but they decide to go look at the other side of beach to see if someone is coming. Simon followed them but stopped and went a different way a found a open space in the jungle and he goes in it but comes back out.

Ego is also one of the internal tendencies in Freud's division of the mind and one of the things Frued mentions about ego is that it uses defense mechanisms to achieve what they want and what they want to say.
Quotation- The part when Simon said " as if it wasn't a good island" (Golding 69), when they are talking about how the little kids are scared of the beastie and the older kids are starting to be afraid of it too. You can tell that they don’t know what to do and whether to believe in the beastie or not. I also think the reason Ralph cares so much about building the shelters is to feel safe and to make the others feel safe from the beastie because everyone secretly believes in
