Jack represents the impulsiveness and cruelty within everyone. Jack prioritizes hunting and pleasures over keeping the rescue fire burning. He tortures multiple characters including the set of twins, Sam and Eric. Jack and his tribe also largely contribute to the violent murdering of the female sow with a spear as they chant, “kill the pig, cut his throat, bash him in” (Chapter 7 pg. 114). Upon first getting on the island Roger does not immediately become uncivilized. He begins throwing rocks at Henry, but purposely not hitting him because, “round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law”(Chapter 4 pg. 62). At this point Roger is still civilized but quickly becomes uncivilized as seen when, “with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever”(Chapter 11 pg.180). Roger loses control and recklessly pushes over the boulder that kills Piggy and marks the end of his civilized behavior. Jack and his tribe represent the meaning of uncivilized and displays the consequences of this behavior. The civilization once at the island shortly disappears after Jack becomes leader and shows how civilized behavior is a necessity in order for a society to run
