Lord of the flies quote analysis
1...."Perhaps there aren't any grownups anywhere." The fat boy was startled. The fair haired boy says this in the beginning of the book when he meets up with the very fat boy. The way that the boy reacts to this shows that they are at a young age and still very dependent on their parents and adults for help in life. This dependency will make surviving on the island very difficult.
2. "The fat boy." While appearing just like a descriptive term for the yet to be named boy, I think that this shows a deeper meaning. He is not referred to as the boy, but the fat boy. I think that this shows that the children will treat him unfairly and worse than each other based upon mere outward appearances
3. "I can't swim.. My asthma.... My auntie." Piggy brings up his aunt and his asthma many times throughout the beginning of the book. His attachment to his aunt, who will not be around, and his asthma makes him a prime target not only for bullying from the kids, but a struggle for him to survive on the island. Piggy seems to have many detriments that will bring him down physically, and socially. I think piggy is boned.
4. "We can use this to call a meeting. The others will come when they hear this." Piggy says this when he finds the conch shell with Ralph. This quotes shows that if there is one thing that piggy does have, it's brains. Most people would just pass by a shell without any thought, but not piggy. He thinks to use it as a signal call. The other kids might make fun of him, but they will need piggy around in certain situations that need brains.
5."His face was crumpled, and freckled. Ugly without silliness." The description of this boy, the obvious leader of a group of boys who emerges, goes on to describe how angry he looks. I believe with this brief description we are meeting the antagonist of the story. You'd think that after finding another group of human beings on a stranded island, one would appear happy, but no, not this boy. He appears discontent with the

Piggy, along with being the brains of the island, is also a very complex and misunderstood boy. “Piggy is a much more complex character, than the simplistic interpretations so regularly adduced will allow”. (Reilly. online). This states that Piggy was an extremely complicated character, and is often overlooked by not only characters in the book, such as Jack and Ralph, but also by readers. He is also described as a brainiac by Golding himself, “Piggy, for all his ludicrous body, had brains”. (Golding 71). This emphasizes to the reader that Piggy’s brain is being discounted due to his stature, and this causes readers to discount his intelligence, however, it brings the reader’s attention to them being naive. This last quote also reinforces the concept that his body is causing his smarts to be overlooked “Piggy lacks the looks but has the know-how. The trouble is that he knows but cannot do and is relegated”. (Reilly. Online).…

    Foreshadowing In Piggy

One of the first events that is foreshadowed in the novel is Piggy’s death. Piggy is the weakest character on the island. He has health problems including: his weight, bad eyesight, and “ass-mar”. He is “the voice of reason” on the island, yet no one listens to him, except Ralph. One scene that foreshadows Piggy’s death is when Roger is throwing the stones at Henry. “Roger stooped, picked up a stone, aimed and threw it at Henry-threw it to miss.”(62) Roger missing shows that he is still has some civility inside him.…

He comes up with countless ideas as to how to improve life on the island and the way to go about doing that. After the fire started by the hunters consumes most of the jungle, Piggy emphasizes that “The first thing we ought to have made was shelters down there by the beach” (45). In the beginning of the book, as Ralph finds the conch, it is Piggy that instructs Ralph in how to blow on the conch and make the sound that makes Ralph the “man with the megaphone” (7). More importantly is the role that Piggy plays as an adult voice on the island, a voice that the boys grow to resent. “‘Grownups know things,’ said Piggy. ‘They ain’t afraid of the dark. They’d meet and have tea and discuss. Then things ‘ud be all right” (94). It is this adult view of life and how he asserts his opinion that shapes the way Ralph ultimately begins to think and govern, and in a certain light, why he fails. Piggy believes that rules should be strictly followed, and this totalitarian view is shown when he tries to stress the power of the conch when speaking before Jack on Castle Rock. It is this effort to remain true to the ideals that the island was founded on, his ideals that were formed from intelligence and reason, that get him…

Piggy is a corpulent boy with glasses and gets picked on by the other boys on the island and is ignored. Piggy always getting picked on and getting his glasses ripped off his face causes him to think as an individual. Piggy is a wise boy and wants his voice to be heard by the other boys on the island so he uses the conch throughout the book so they would listen to him no matter what. “I got the conch, I got the conch,…

Piggy was brutally honest and wasn’t afraid to express his thoughts and ideas. Unlike the rest of the group, he was highly intelligent and thought logically through the problems they endured. He gave the idea of making a sundial, which is a clock that represents order and discipline, two characteristics which the group of boys desperately need. The boys are ruthless and disobey the rules. They became careless as time passes by, with no hope of being rescued. Their lack of care is what lead them to be so ruthless many times throughout the novel. Even with the circumstances, Piggy stayed on line and mature. He didn’t act ruthlessly and attempted to talk some sense into the boys about their actions; however the boys reluctant. The group itself…

After using the island as temporary vacation, soon learned that the island was not just any other island; it was a carnivorous island. By day everything appeared to be ordinary but by night the island turned into an acidic beast devouring the dead fish trapped in the ponds and turning algae into acidic predators. Pi reached a conclusion stating, “I prefered to set off and perish in search of my own kind than to live a lonely half-life of physical comfort and spiritual death on this murderous island” (283). This is similar but vastly different to the physical features and importance of the island in Lord of the Flies. Unlike Pi, the young british boys had no other option but to take their chances of survival on the island rather than making a raft and setting off in search of rescue. The physical makeup of the british boys island was the more typical stereotype of an island containing a dense forest on one side and steep jagged rocks at the base of a hilltop on the other. Instead of opens plains teeming with hundreds of thousands of meerkats, this island overflowed with thick brush where wild pigs flourished. Both the meerkats and the wild pigs served as key source of food for the different characters. What makes these islands similar is the fact that british boys believed within the island too lived a “beast”. At first, the beast was nothing more than a product of the boys' imaginations. The smaller boys were afraid of things they saw at night. Instead of be afraid of nothing, they gave their fear a name, the Great Unknown, and a fantasized about it in their minds. The beast was claimed to have been seen by the twins who described the beast as having “teeth” and “eyes”. This unconfirmed beast creates a huge center of conflict within the group of boys. It puts the boys in an increased state of chaos and…
