As a child her first time on TV was when she was only seven years old when she landed a role on Barney & Friends. After that she made appearances in movies till she starred on Disney channel, where she is widely known for her lead female role in Disney’s Camp Rock and her own show Sonny with a chance. Lovato soon became overwhelmed with the workload, her increased popularity and media attention she was attracting being an actress, singer, song-writer and charity spokesperson, at only 18 years old. Being a pop star with problems finally came to light in the summer of 2010 backstage after a concert, Lovato attacked one of her back up dancers and was sent to rehab, where the truth was revealed that she had stopped eating regularly, taken up drinking, drugging, self-harm and purging.

Lovato also admitted that she was eleven years old when she first began cutting herself. “It was a way of expressing my own shame of myself and my body. There were times where my emotions were so built up, I didn’t know what to do,the only way I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.”(Demi) Although her reason for cutting was not to try to end her life she admitted how unconcerned she was about her health and even her own life. ”I don’t think that I was ever trying to kill myself but I knew that if I’d ever gone too far, that I wouldn’t care.”At 12 years old, the bullying continued in school, with girls calling her fat, telling her that was the reason she had no friends so she stopped eating. When Lovato was about 15, she was only eating two meals a week, but was not losing weight because her body had adjusted, she tried new ways including laxatives and fasts.
