Lowering the Drinking Age?
The current legal drinking age In California is 21, although there are many who oppose the age. I have been studying the topic for the past month, to where now I feel I have enough evidence to support my answer. In my government class I have learned the many ways that certain principles can apply to certain ideas. A constitutional principles that I saw was evident while completing this activity was judicial review. I came to realize that the government was the one enforcing the age limit, therefore it could not be Limited Government. In my case, I wish we had popular sovereignty so that we would all be able to drink at whatever age we desired. There have been states to change their age limit on drinking which is judicial review, for the only way they could have been changed within the states is by going based on the constitution and making sure that the new laws won’t break their freedom of speech. Judicial review fits well in this case because it can declare the law to be unconstitutional, illegal, and void of a government action that could possibly violate provisions written in the Constitution. As a part of my study, I choose to make a survey and hand it out to see what types of results I would get. These activities related to what I learned in the classroom because I learned that you are more involved and have the power to really make a change. You as a student are proposing different ideas to be able to present to the House of Representatives. This activity can really help me in the future for when I need to research and have a voice of my own to make a change I wish to see. This activity had me more engaged because of the fact that it was a topic I was very interested in. As a student, I had the opportunity to talk with different
