Lupita Nyong’o was born In Mexico City, Mexico on March 11983. Although, she was born in Mexico, both her parents are Kenyan and she was raised in Kenya. Lupita Nyong’o is a Mexican- Kenyan filmmaker and actress. Lupita Nyong’o went to college in the United States of America, in Amherst, Massachusettes, where she graduated from Hampshire College with a bachelor’s degree in film and theatre studies. Her parents were in political exile at the time of her being born, but they returned to Kenya while she was a child. Her father was a part of the country’s Senate and her mom, worked with the Africa Cancer Foundation. She grew up in a very artistic family, so family get togethers included performances and trips to see plays that the children were in.

After performing in a production of Romeo and Juliet, she went back to Mexico while she was a teenager to learn Spanish. She began acting as a young teen in Kenya. She began to pursue her interests. She went to the Yale School of Drama in 2012 earning her master’s degree. Lupita Nyong’o landed her breakthrough role when she was acting in Steve Mcqueen’s Drama for 12 Years a Slave, which tells of a man who was a free-born African American man from upper New York who was kidnapped and sold into salver in Washington DC in 1841She won the 2014 Acadamy Award for best supporting actress. In 2009, Nyong’o wrote, directed, and produced the documentary “In my Genes” which tells the stories of Kenyans living with albinism.
