Lutheranism: If You Don T Go To Heaven
Lutheranism is a religion based off of Catholicism with changes done by Martin Luther, a German Monk and Theologian, he made his points with the 95 theses, and it exposed all the flaws with the catholic church. Catholicism differs from Lutheranism with two main flaws the flaws that existed back in the 1500’s still exist today. The first is how is one saved and be able to enter heaven? The Lutherans believe that the scripture tells us our fate. A good quote from the bible that lutherans use a lot is Romans 3:28 which states "we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the Law”. However catholics believe that we are saved by faith plus love and good works. Implying that you don’t go to heaven because you just believe you have to work hard to get into heaven by saying “I deserve to go to heaven not this man who hardly shows up on sunday”. That is why catholics work in the community more than other religions such as Lutheran’s, Baptist’s, Methodist’s and so on and so forth. Some …show more content…

In the year 1505 he received his masters degree. A lightning bolt struck near to him as he was returning to school. Terrified, he cried out, "Help, St. Anne! I'll become a monk!" Spared of his life, but regretting his words, Luther kept his bargain, dropped out of law school and entered the monastery there. While in the monastery Luther did not receive the religious enlightenment he was expecting would come to him. When Luther was 27 he was selected to be a delegate at a church conference in Rome. There was when he first witnessed the corruption within the Catholic Church. When he returned he enrolled in the University of Wittenberg, where he received his doctorate and become a professor of Theology at the

In the time that Luther spent at the Catholic church he discovered the hypocrisy of the teachings. Luther did not respect the idea that one could be allowed to pay to have their sins forgiven (Doc. 2). Luther experienced that evil practices that the Catholic church followed therefore he revoked them. He believed that the Pope was an evil man that ran the church as the Devil would (Doc. 4). Luther truly thought that the Catholics followed the Devil in the form of the Pope. Although Luther did not believe in the teachings of the Catholic church, he did accept as true the traditional teachings of God. Luther trusted in and practiced unconditional love for God (Doc. 3). Luther’s traditional attitude towards Gods teachings demonstrates his conservative values. On the other hand, Luther has some liberal ideas. Some of those liberal ideas are demonstrated with the idea of a secular…

The head of the Lutheran Church is someone from the elected councils. It is an important difference from Catholicism because Catholics have the Pope as their head leader meanwhile Lutherans do not think it is necessary to have someone to assist God. An elected council is a group of members that discuss many problems or give suggestions on how to improve in certain areas. The Pope is the bishop of Rome as head of the Roman Catholic Church. Lutherans and Catholics believe salvation is achieved through faith, yet Catholics believe the good works are involved with salvation as well. Catholics accept all the sacraments and priests perform all seven sacraments or rituals. Lutherans accept some of the sacraments but do not perform a few because they believe that rituals do not erase sin, only God is able to do such thing. The Bible is a source of truth for both religions but for Catholics, church tradition is a source that has been practiced for centuries. Catholics have a priest to read and teach the bible for others, meanwhile Lutherans believe that they themselves should read and interpret the…

He entered the monastery of the Augustinian Hermits and devoted his life to “prayer, fasting, and ascetic practices – going without sleep, enduring bone-chilling cold without a blanket, and flagellating himself.” During this time of study, Luther began to unwrap the word righteous to which he found troubling. From Romans 1:17 “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.’” Luther began to understand that he could not live as righteous; in fact, no man could live in such a manner. Luther remarked, “I hated that word, ‘the righteousness of God,’ by which I had been taught according to the custom and use of all teachers ... [that] God is righteous and punishes the unrighteous sinner.” Recognizing his “spiritual struggles” the Abbott, Johann Von Staupitz transferred Luther to the monastery at Wittenberg. While at Wittenberg, Luther continued his studies in religion earning and “began his second set of degrees, taking another B.A. in…

The Reformation was a large, unique movement away from the Catholic Church in 16th and 17th century Europe. Starting with Martin Luther being the first to officially oppose the theology of the Catholic Church, he posted his work, 95 Theses, to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church. This act allowed for multiple movements away from the Catholic Church, consequently creating multiple new religions, some of which remain today. Some movements began with the sole idea of rectifying the Christian religion, while others were seen as an opportunity for gain of power or in umbrage of a political adversary. Due to the unmitigated diversity of each distinct reforming sect, the Reformation as a whole is to be considered as both a religious…

As Luther states in his book “My People the Sioux”, he was born, “in the year of ‘breaking up of camp” (3). It was not until after he became educated and learned how to count the dates back that he came to the conclusion he was born in December of 1868. Luther grew up on the Sioux reservation and learned the values and customs of his people. He embraced them and wanted to learn as much from his father as he possibly could. Luther’s father instilled in him to always be honest, brave and if you were to die, die with dignity and honor. At one point his father told him, “Son, always remember that a man who tells lies is never liked by anybody” (Standing Bear, 65). At a young age Luther decided he was going to attend Carlisle a white man’s school. He had the words of his father in his head “Son, be brave! Die on the battle-field if necessary away from home. It is better to die young than to get old and sick and then die” (Standing Bear, 124).…

This was a result of the passing of the Edict of Worms. The Diet of Worms, a religious council in Germany, declared Luther a heretic and demanded that no one follow his teachings. This was because the fear of revolt loomed over the church’s head, which could spell out a multitude of problems for them. Martin Luther stood by his teachings and refused to renounce his writings. Thus, on May 25th, 1521 the Holy Roman emperor signed the Edict of Worms condemning Luther and his writings. The writings of Luther were burned, and he was forced to go into hiding (“Martin”). During his time of hiding, Martin Luther translated the Bible from Latin to German. In 1524, German peasants revolted after discovering Luther’s works and his punishment dealt by the church. As a result of these revolts, Lutheranism would end up becoming the official religion of Germany and other countries by the end of the Reformation (“The…

One thing was Relics These were sanctioned by the Vatican and They were pieces of straw, hay, white feathers from a dove, pieces of the cross etc. that could be sold to people as the things that had been the nearest to Jesus on Earth. The money raised from these relics went straight to the church and to the Vatican. These so called ‘holy’ relics were very sought after as the people saw their purchase as a way of pleasing God. It also showed that you had honoured Him by spending your money on the relics associated with his son. the next thing that Martin luther was against was Indulgences As i described above These were ‘certificates’ produced in bulk that had been pre-signed by the pope which pardoned a person’s sins and gave you access to heaven. and the last thing was Pilgrimages These were supported by the catholic church as a pilgrim would end up at a place of worship that was owned by the catholic church and money could be made by the sale of badges, holy water and certificates to prove you had been and completed your…
