There are two times that I can recall where the ladies in the play question their man's manhood. The first time isn’t in this scene it’s in another scene where Macbeth tries to talk himself out of killing Duncan. The second time is in the scene 4.2 when Lady Macduff is talking to Ross about Macduff leaving the family. She doesn’t know why he left the family or her behind, but she is judging his manhood. She says he’s not a man because he is leaving them to defend for themselves and live a life where the man was in charge of everything and now the women need to be in charge. Macduff leaves to go find Duncan’s son to see if he would come back to Scotland and help get rid of Macbeth, he is too strong and can’t be done by themselves so he needs help. Lady Macduff things that he’s just getting up and leaving the family and not wanting to help out with anything, she thinks that he has given up on everything and is moving on. Turns out that's not what Macduff is doing. Lady Macduff says that her husband isn’t man enough to stay with her and the kids, only to find out he wasn’t leaving for good. By the time Macduff gets back to Scotland his wife and kids are both dead. “ Wisdom! To leave his wife, to leave his babes, His mansion and his titles in a place From Whence himself does fly?” Page 385, line
