Macbeth Assignment “Macbeth”, is a play written by William Shakespeare. It is considered the darkest and most powerful tragedies. It was written back in the 1600’s where in that period of time everyone was influenced by temptations. We live in a cruel world where people will do almost anything to gain power and be in charge. The play dramatizes the awful effects produced when evil is chosen as a way to fulfil the ambition for power. Macbeth was pressured by his wife Lady Macbeth. This led him to the masterly murder of the King Duncan which made him take the throne for himself. There are debates regarding who was mostly responsible for the death of King Duncan. Some say it was Lady Macbeth’s fault, others think it is Macbeth’s fault. In the play we collected evidence which supported the fact that Macbeth himself was more responsible for the death of King Duncan more than his evil wife. Macbeth was the one who committed the murder. Also, even though he was pressured by his wife he is still responsible for his own actions. Lastly Macbeth already liked the idea of killing king Duncan before Lady Macbeth knew about the prophecy.
Macbeth was influenced by Lady Macbeth but she isn’t more responsible for the death of King Duncan. He is the one to blame for killing the king. A lot of evidence from the play support this statement. When Macbeth and Banquo finished talking with the three witches, Macbeth found out that he was now the new Thane of Cawdor. After hearing what the witched had to say, Macbeth believed that the prophesies were true. Thus he began thinking about the ideas of killing the king before he informs his wife about the prophecy. Later that night Lady Macbeth received his letter and tells him what she thinks about this “supernatural soliciting”. Important lines in the play are when Macbeth says to himself "If good, why do I yield to that suggestion.
