The character of Macbeth has an undying need to further himself. This is initially what made him into a hero. His need to better himself always led to him chasing goals and perusing a path that would lead him further up in life. During this time, this feeling of ambition was a good quality for him, as he worked harder than most for the things he wanted.
Macbeth was seen as a good human being. Yet, there are many problems with human nature. Humans will always seek to take the quicker or easiest route to get something done. Macbeth was no exception to this. Once he had heard the Witches predictions about him, and almost immediately, the first prediction came true, he began to realise that he could have found a shortcut to the throne. At that point, we start seeing Macbeth’s mindset changing. His ambitious nature takes over and he begins to wonder how he could make the last prediction hold true.
Once the King comes to stay at his castle, Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth to kill him. Macbeth has some apprehension at this point, as he is a loyal Thane and it is his duty to protect the king. When his wife tries to question his manhood, his need to prove himself takes over and he decides to kills Duncan. This is the beginning of his moral downfall. It is at this point that Macbeth begins to loose his morals in the pursuit of power.
