All the lords and ladies preceded to take their
seats at the round table but before everyone was sitting Macbeth excuses himself to go check up on a man whom had just appeared at the front door. I adjusted my hearing to try and distinguish between Macbeth’s voice and that of the crowd around me, but it was no use. Although, I could not hear their voices, I noticed that it must have been quite an emotional experience for Macbeth as his face went from that of a joyful man to a look of worry and concern in a matter of moments.
Macbeth, finally arriving at the dinner table with his guests still had the look of a worried man. In this moment it seemed to me that I was looking at a shell of man, one of which who was off in his own land somewhere. He soon rose to his feet to have a toast and give his speech as king. While it seemed Macbeth was back to his normal self that was clearly not the case as his face when dull all the color draining from it as though he had just witnessed something ungodly.
At first I had thought a crazy drunken man had stumbled into the hall but alas it was just Macbeth speaking as though he was going mad. Ross and Lemnox plead with him to take a seat as everyone at the table was observing him. Macbeth thought we were playing a trick on him as he could not see an empty seat that upon which was just before his eyes. Most of us begin to stand as we have realized Macbeth is not in his right mind but Lady Macbeth assures us that this fit happens upon occasion and that we should all sit back down. “A king that goes mad frequently?” I thought to myself as I sat back down.
The craze fit of yelling and nothing seems to calm down as Lady Macbeth talks some sense into him. Every one of the gusts were dumbfounded at what they had just witnessed. Suddenly, he started to yell again saying things such as “Go! And get out of my sight! Stay in your grave.” In my eyes his mind must have been going to mush over the events that had occurred the past few days. Soon after, Lady Macbeth comes to the conclusion that his actions have gotten out of control and that we all should leave.
The ginormous group of guest poured out from the castles gates to outside to discuss what happened. There was a lot of gossip that floated around the crowd but I decided to make my way home. “Something must have happened for him to act like that” I thought myself as I walked. “What sort of king do we have now? One that goes mad?” was my final thought as I slept for the night.
