INVESTIGATION:
On 03-29-17 at 1920 hours, I was dispatched to the Macy’s Store regarding a female being detained by Macy’s Loss Prevention Officers for theft. Upon my arrival, I met with Target Loss Prevention Officer Vanessa Aranda, who advised me of the following information in summary:
Aranda was monitoring video surveillance and saw Suspect Fanny Huang on the first floor handbag department, concealing store merchandise into her blue plastic bag. Aranda saw that Huang began to walk to the east exit doors with the concealed store …show more content…
merchandise.
Huang walked past the cash register and out the east doors which leads onto Lake Avenue, without paying for the stolen clothing. Aranda then contacted Huang outside of the store. Huang was taken into custody by Aranda and walked back into the store. Aranda retrieved the concealed store merchandise from Huang’s plastic bag.
I looked through Huang’s purse and found $117.89 in US Currency. Huang did not have any credit cards or checks in her possession. Aranda gave me a receipt with the stolen merchandise which totaled $169.19. Aranda also gave me the video surveillance which was downloaded onto two CD’s, which were later uploaded onto VeriPic. Aranda told me the store is desirous of prosecution.
I took photos of the stolen property and Huang’s blue plastic bag, which were later uploaded into VeriPic (see attached photos). I handcuffed and arrested Huang for PC 459.5(a)-Shoplifting. The handcuffs were double locked. Sergeant Crees #1610 was advised and approved the arrest. I then transported Huang to the Pasadena City Jail for booking.
While in the Pasadena Jail, I advised Huang of her Miranda Rights from my department issued Miranda Rights Card.
Huang understood her rights by saying, “Yes.” I asked Huang to speak with me about the incident. Huang waived her rights and agreed to speak with me. Huang told me the following information in summary:
Prior to Huang entering the Macy’s Store, she decided to steal clothing for her daughter Emily Huang, NFD. Huang admitted to having money is her possession but wanted to save it for rent. Huang was on the first floor and placed the store merchandise into her blue plastic bag.
Huang walked past the cash register without paying for the concealed items. Huang decided she was going to pay for the concealed items and walked back into the Macy’s Store. Huang was then contacted inside of the store by Loss Prevention Officer Aranda. Huang was escorted into the loss prevention office with the stolen property. Huang did not provide any additional relevant information regarding the above case. My body worn camera was activated during the investigation and interview of
Huang.
I issued Huang a citation for PC 459.5-Shoplifting (Cite #C420180). Huang is schedule to appear at the Pasadena Court on 05-11-17 at 0830 hours.
I returned to the police station and placed the CD’s with the video surveillance into evidence.
