Tesla’s knowledge in radio helped him experiment with remote control technology. He also used florescent light bulbs about 40 years before they were officially invented. Additionally, he thought about the development of robotics and x-ray technology. Tesla also invented lasers that are now used in surgical appliances and digital media. Furthermore, he established the idea of the electrical motor, which is now used in industrial fans, household appliances, water pumps, machine tools, power tools, and Tesla cars. Later in his life, Tesla was given doctoral degrees by Columbia University and Yale University. He was also awarded the Elliot Cresson Medal by the Franklin Institute, as well as the Edison Medal. Tesla’s birthday, July 10, was proclaimed Nikola Tesla Day in New York and other states in the United States. He was also put into the Inventor’s Hall of Fame in 1975. A few books were written about Tesla: Prodigal Genius: The Life of Nikola Tesla by John J. O’Neill and Tesla: Man out of Time by Margaret Cheney. A documentary film was also made about the scientist: Nikola Tesla, The Genius Who Lit the World. It was produced by the Tesla Memorial Society and the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, which was built in his honor. Other movies made about him include The Secret of Nikola Tesla, produced by Orson Welles, and BBC Film Masters of the Ionosphere. Also, the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey keeps his name alive by doing daily demonstrations of the Tesla
