This was almost like the snowball effect and kept getting bigger. Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for this incident because it was caused by a Serbian terrorist which was out of the government control. They threatened Serbia with war and were backed up by Germany. Russia got involved due to their alliance and more and more countries began to get involved making the war way bigger than what it had to be. This shows that what Albert is saying is true. Serbia offended Austria-Hungary and they threatened war on them. Yes it was a big deal that the Duke along with his wife were both shot and killed, but Austria-Hungary took it to the extreme. The also affected the men who were living in the country. They were sent to war to fight for their country and ultimately killed for a dumb reason. Albert even says “ but our professors and parsons and newspapers say that we are the only ones that are right, and let’s hope so; but the French professors and parsons and newspapers say that the right is on their side, now what about that?”. This shows that everybody fighting in this war thinks their right and that's the reason why they're fighting. This also applies to the boys. They don’t like killing men but they have to because they’ve been taught that it’s the right thing. I think that wars are not caused by this now like they were a long time ago. Before, wars were usually fought because of people offending each other. Now, wars are mainly about power and control. Take North Korea and Kim Jong-un for example. Kim Jong-un is threatening the US via missile testing of the coast of North Korea. North Korea is stuck in a dictatorship which means the country has one ruler who makes all the rules. Another example would be Adolf Hitler. Kim Jong-un is power-hungry and wants more. That´s why he's testing missiles. He´s doing this to, eventually, invade a country in hopes of claiming it for himself. This is completely different from how wars were originally caused. Some big wars were caused like this however such as the Korean War and World War ii, but during the setting of the book, offending a country was the main reason. I think wars are inevitable with the kind of people we have on earth but there could be a world where everyone is peaceful and can get along . Yes, countries can figure out peaceful solutions to problems but there could be one leader who doesn't agree and won't ever agree. People living that country like the leader because they want their country to be great! The biggest example of this is, again, Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. If the citizens like their leader, they probably won't want to switch leaders which would cause countries to go to war. Even if the leader gets removed and replaced by a new one, Some citizens might not agree with the change when some do which could end up causing a Civil War.
