efforts to bring education for women to Pakistan. Women in this country are not treated as equals and are not allowed to participate in the same activities as men such as attending school because they are supposed to stay at home. When a male is born into the family, everyone celebrates. “But when a girl is born, no one visits the parents, and women have only sympathy for the mother” (Yousafzai 19). This was never their way of life before the Taliban took over. Everyone used to be looked at as equals, but once they took over, they banned everything for women. At this point is when Malala started to hypothesize ideas of how to restore Pakistan with the help of her father. Because of the Taliban’s ability to identify people and locate where they live easily, Malala
King 2 created a webpage that was anonymous.
Through this web page, she reached out to the world expressing her need for education. Education is important to her and her family and the thing that she loved was ripped away from her. What would she do now without education? Malala and her friends continued to attend school in secret hoping not to be noticed. They dressed in more normal looking clothes instead of their uniform. Her anger still raged inside of her due to the fact that women could no longer attend school freely. As the long days go on, she keeps updating her blog day by day describing what her life …show more content…
entails.
As her blog became more popular and her identity was revealed, according to BCC News, she became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17. A few major events led up to her acceptance of this award. On October 16th, 2012, Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban member because they discovered she was speaking out against the new government. This changed her life and the lives of others around the world. This event created attention all over the world with everyone asking: “Who is this girl and why was she shot?” Once the world found out the real story, she gained an enormous amount of support. Much of the world supported her views in hopes to help her restore Pakistan to its original ways of governing. Because of her outstanding effort and her affect on the world, she was then awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In her acceptance speech she states, “I have found that people describe me in many different ways. Some people call me the girl who was shot by the Taliban. And some, the girl who fought for her rights” ("Malala Yousafzai - Nobel Lecture"). Malala should be know for more than being shot in the head. She should be known as the girl that transformed the views and support of Pashtun people, specifically women. She is very honored to have
King 3 received this award and still remains humble because that is how she was raised by her family. Malala also partnered with Kailash Satyarthi who has been fighting for children’s rights. Together they make a great pair and are very deserving of the award ("Malala Yousafzai - Nobel Lecture").
With her many accomplishments of creating an online diary and receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, she is also the author of an autobiography titled I Am Malala.
Published in 2014, she depicts what her eventful life has been like for the past few years. She is truly inspiring because of her maturity and boldness. Both Malala and her father put their lives on the line to help better their country. Standing up for what you believe in is one thing, but to succeed is another. Throughout this book, the realization shows that Malala didn’t have that great of a life financially and downgrading her rights made things worse. Regardless of her situation, she always loved her family no matter the circumstances. She states in her speech, I would like to thank my parents for their unconditional love. Thank you to my father for not clipping my wings and for letting me fly. Thank you to my mother for inspiring me to be patient and to always speak the truth - which we strongly believe is the true message of Islam. And also thank you to all my wonderful teachers, who inspired me to believe in myself and be brave ("Malala Yousafzai - Nobel
Lecture").
After reading the book, it gives an overall snapshot of Malala’s life from learning about her friends to reading about her tough life of fighting for women’s rights. Malala Yousafzai has affected the world in many ways by combating the Taliban, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, and writing an autobiography. Changing the world by your actions is no easy task. Malala has proved this herself even though she didn’t ask to the change the world, but her own community. To create a major impact, it takes humbleness, maturity, and patience. How will you take action to change the world?
