Each selection force opposes the other. On one hand, females tend to choose the brighter male with more conspicuous colouration due to the similarities between bright orange and iridescent colours and the ripped fruit that they consume, brighter colours underline what scientist called good genes it might also mean high resistance to parasites and other pathogens.
On the other hand, natural selection act as an editing process, eliminating the traits that would not confer and survival advantage to the population, for guppies being able to blend with the pond or stream background is a favourable trait and it can be seen more obvious in areas of high-density predation and less dramatic in low risk areas. …show more content…
In male Guppies case, the sexual selection (female choice) is constant, which means that females will always choose the more conspicuous male no matter what environment or situation they are in, while the variable is the density of natural selection pressure
