and cuts her wings off because of his greed to become the successor of the king. This shows one of the ideology. That people can change. Stefan became greedy and evil from loving and innocent. Maleficent, after realizing that Stefan cut off her wings, turned into a heart of revenge. She was always positive and happy. Caring about everything in the moors, she was soaring like an angel, but without her wings, and with the feeling of betrayal, she turns into a dark, and evil being, gets a wand, and her magic all turns green. Also, from this scene we can see that they’re broken and that their love wasn’t true. Furiously, tremendously, and powerfully Maleficent enters the hall and curses the king, Stefan’s daughter, Aurora with the curse of sleep when she turns sixteen that can’t be broken unless with a true love’s kiss. She performs this act while looking at the king, angrily. Maleficent thinks this is a revenge because she believes that their love was true but Stefan broke it and therefore she realizes that there is no true love. This becomes a part of another ideology that there is no such thing as true love and it doesn’t exist in this world. Maleficent got her revenge on Stefan and because of that, Stefan is now trying to get revenge on Maleficent. He safely sends his daughter away and tells the three fairies to bring her back the day after the sixteenth birthday. As the scenes change the colors get darker and Stefan’s expression stiffens. Stefan is getting more evil and sulk. He gets obsessed with killing Maleficent that he goes almost crazy. These two major characters tries to revenge each other but everytime they try to revenge, everything gets worse. The lights from Moors and Stefan’s kingdom is gone and darkness surrounds the whole scene. The revenging destroys Maleficent and Stefan’s true and kind personality and changed them to monsters that wants others to suffer. As the movie nears the end, Maleficent loves Aurora so much that she tends to her needs and cares for her.
Maleficent cared for her when the three fairies that were supposed to care for her couldn’t and she sent her servant raven to play with her and to entertain her. She also saved Aurora’s life once. Maleficent, as shown in the movie, tries to undo the curse but fails to because it has to be undone from a true lover’s kiss and she is in sorrow. Then, Aurora likes this prince and Maleficent notices this and since she really wants to save Aurora, she brings the prince to Aurora to kiss her. He does kiss her, but she doesn’t wake up from the curses. In sorrow, Maleficent kisses Aurora and surprisingly she wakes up from the curse. The true love wasn’t the guy she liked but it was Maleficent. The director made clear that true love isn’t always about romance, it’s about how truly you care about them, and love them, and would sacrifice anything for them. The love that was shown was like a mother love. It needs loyalty, friendship, and caring. True love wasn’t about prince charming and kisses, it was about unconditional love. Stefan still tries to get revenge and in the end he dies. It clearly shows that revenge does you no good and that it would sooner or later, destroy
you. The ideologies portrayed in this movies were that people do change from good to evil or vice versa; true love isn’t always romantic; and that revenging destroys yourself and others around you. And all these ideologies are showed very clearly through the movie because the director repeats same or similar scenes again and again. He makes us think “Why is he repeating?” and makes us lead to the question “What is his ideology or point of view in this movie?”
