Mandatory Military Draft

Until today mandatory military has been a very well known controversy for centuries. Mandatory military, otherwise known as conscription, or drafting, is the compulsory enlistment of of people in a national service, most often a military service. The importance of mandatory military dates back to the days of WWI, WWII, Vietnam war, and much more. It was necessary for 18 to 26 year old men to register for the draft, if they failed to do so, they could owe a fine or be limited to apply for certain jobs and financial aid. Some exceptions that were made was if a man had a family or went to college. The rest of the men who didn’t make the cut were the ones who were most likely to be sent to war. Even though, mandatory military service assures national security, military service should not be mandatory for all residents of the U.S. because drafted soldiers would not have enough skills and knowledge to fight alongside volunteered soldiers and it takes away precious time from the youth. If drafted soldiers were to fight alongside volunteered soldiers, they will lack skills and knowledge. Drafted soldiers are more likely to serve their time and get out as soon as possible. They won’t see this opportunity as a patriotic act, but more of an action they are
