Manifest Destiny Research Paper

The idea of Manifest Destiny ran through American history since the 19th century. America began to expand through the continent, because it was their destiny to expand. America wanted to become bigger and greater. Manifest Destiny not only included the idea of being destined to expand America, but it also included the idea of expanding America for economic opportunity and for the progress of Liberty. America went straight for Manifest Destiny to better its economy and strength. Imperialism degrades other nations making them oppressed by their ruling countries, however the United States did try to expand their colony into the pacific ocean for the ideology of Manifest Destiny by having people from America going to other countries, building canals in other provinces and creating companies in China to expand the American economy. American troops were sent into many other lands. Regions such as Argentina, Nicaragua and Japan. American Troops were sent into Argentina to support the interest during the revolution. They were sent into Nicaragua to protects american lives. Americans were within the countries taking over slowly. In China the Americans went into the land to defend American interest. All nations were having their own revolutions to begin with. America took advantage of the issues going on within the countries to expand their own soil.
America intervened in almost every country on the pacific ocean. The taking over other nations led to needing a navy, and no government would be bothered by needing and creating a bigger army. Captain A. T. Mahan believed that a navy would lead to creating a bigger America. It would also help them look outward of the country of America into countries residing in the pacific ocean. Looking towards other countries would increase the economy and the size of America. For the interest of commerce, American government built the Nicaragua Canal. Once the Nicaraguan Canal was built, it was said by Henry Cabot Lodge that the canal building would lead to commercial supremacy in the rest of the world. America in his eyes depended upon the protection of the canal to protect their “commercial supremacy”. They wanted to maintain the influences of the economy in Hawaiian islands. After they built the canal, they wanted to go the next country; Cuba. This would lead to the expansion of America further away from the Northern Continents. The main goal of the canal was to take over Nicaragua, then after they sought the idea of going further. In China, the American China Development Company was made to expand the influence of America in China.
They wanted to bring about the markets to China so that America could better the economy which is what was included in the ideology of Manifest Destiny. The talk of the American China Development Company also brought about the talk of American policy toward Hawaii, the Philippines and Asia. At least 10 percent of money made that was sold abroad amounted to billions of dollars. The crops in America became dependent among in other countries This essentially brought America into those regions without other nations
noticing. In Conclusion, America used the ideas of manifest destiny to expand into regions outside of North America. America wanted to gain the access to other countries to benefit themselves economically and politically. Spain also did the same with the Americas by using Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus took over the Americas in search of gold, his search led to Spain colonizing America. That led to the triangle trade, which increased the economy of Spain greatly.
