Mapping an Argument Essay 1
The Federal Government 's Attacks on Medical Marijuana Result in Abuse and Injustice
From the passage the real issue is the Obama administration has failed to keep their word to protect the people who are using Medical Marijuana for a good cause and stimulating the economy by creating jobs.
The premises that I could find within this passage were obvious there were many so I listed a few from the passage. “The Dept. of Justice has now begun openly endeavoring to destroy carefully regulated state programs before they get off the ground.” “Several states have started reassessing their medical marijuana laws after stern warnings from the federal government that everyone from licensed growers to regulators could be subjected to prosecution.” “Letters with various cautions have also gone to officials in California, Colorado, Montana and Rhode Island”. “Warnings in Washington State led Gov. Chris Gregoire to veto a proposal that would have created licensed marijuana dispensaries.” “Letters with various cautions have also gone to officials in California, Colorado, Montana and Rhode Island.” “They 're protecting the argument that medical marijuana is out of control by interfering with efforts to control it.” “ It 's a slippery and typical drug war propaganda tactic that, once understood and exposed, should begin to lose its potency.” “Medical marijuana is a $1.7 billion industry that is helping sick people, creating jobs, generating substantial tax revenue, and even taking money away from murderous cartels in Mexico.”
This is an ongoing battle between the (DOJ) and the States involved with the usage and sales of Medical Marijuana. The Obama Administration was supposed to back the states, the growers, and the people using the drug. The Obama Administration failed to make their promise as requested upon by the people. So now the states have become a target to try to shut down the operation of medical marijuana within each state approved to do so. The Department of

In Stephen C. Webster’s article titled “White House admits marijuana has ‘some’ medical value” the opening line is a contradiction in itself. The Webster (2011) website states, “Days after the DEA insisted that marijuana has no medical value, the White House says there may actually be ‘some’ medical value to ‘individual component of the cannabis plant’ after all.” The DEA is supposed to be up to date with drug effects; but the White House says different, basically calling out the credibility of the DEA. Webster also goes on to say that smoking marijuana is harmful and has no medical value, in which he pulled from a report from the White House.…

The campaign to legitimize what is called “medical” marijuana is based on two propositions: first, that science views marijuana as medicine; and second, that the DEA targets sick and dying people using the drug. Neither proposition is true. Specifically, smoked marijuana has not withstood the rigors of science–it is not medicine, and it is not safe. Moreover, the DEA targets criminals engaged in the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana, not the sick and dying. This is true even in the 15 states that have approved the use of “medical” marijuana.…

Emphasis on law enforcement . This included the Controlled Substances Act, where marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug for the most dangerous drugs that have no medical use. It is getting harder for law makers to present plausible reasons as to why marijuana shouldn’t be regulated for medical use. Marijuana is the growing topic in Americans daily lives; shockingly people are blind to realize that this substance will probably be one of the deadliest drugs in the next decade. “History repeats itself” a wise man once said, and this isn’t the first time or the last time America will use the excuses to make illegal substances that kill. The generations of the 20th century where blind and medically illiterate to the dangers of cigarettes in fact they believed it was health approved. Only a few decades later people started to realize the demons of smoking and plagued America with 5 million deaths a year ever since.…
