Marcus Garfer's Ras: Symbolism Of Brother Tarp
Ras signifies a Marcus Garvey type character. He believes that blacks should stick together and make things better on their own instead of working for the white man.
Brother Tarp can be seen as a father figure to the Narrator. He offers the Narrator advice and reveals the tale of his journey to freedom to him.
Wrestrum signifies the people who don’t want to see you shine. He saw that the Narrator was getting publicity and had to stop it.
Sybil symbolizes a dead end for the Narrator. He thought that she would be his gateway to knowledge in the Brotherhood but she has no idea about the business of the organization.
Rinehart represents the countless opportunities available in the world. With him being a gambler, a preacher, and a pimp, it shows
