Michael Pollen is an authoritative figure in the realm of food that, indeed, has portrayed some very interesting and beneficial perspectives. However, he also has a tendency to use his position of power to infiltrate societal views when it comes to agriculture and eating. In “Visible Farmers/Invisible Workers” by Sarah D. Wald, Pollen is dissected critically for his lack of attention paid to the workers that allow the United States to produce megatons of food each year.…
Cohen makes a good case against the hypocritical reasons that the British gave for their treatment of the Native Americans. First, the British did not value the civilization they thrust themselves upon even though it had been successful for thousands of years. The "new world" was not technologically advanced like many European inventions such as the globe, and the black powder weapon; which gave the British the idea that their superior knowledge made them worth more as human beings. Submission to their rule was only alternative for Native Americans. Failing that, then force and treachery were a way to handle the "savages".…
Arriving in 2006, through the combined efforts of Marcus Ackroyd, Laurence Brocklick, Michael Moss, Kate Redford, and John Stevenson’s comes Advancing with the Army: Medicine, the Professions, and Social Mobility in the British Isles, 1790-1850. This book breaks disciplinary boundaries between medical, military, and social history in an effort to enrich the field. Although the book deals mainly with professionalization of doctors in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, it shows how military surgeons and doctors fit into British Strategy. This book reveals many things about the military and surgeon works such as a disproportionate amount of Scots as surgeons and most young doctors were younger sons from nonmedical families. Before…

Of the many live performances I have been able to see, by far my favorite is Wicked. I have always been drawn to plays that are fantasy-based versus those that focus on realism. Wicked is a complete fun-ride of fantasy from beginning to end. From it's variety of outrageous characters to it's musical score, each aspect of drama is clear and defined in this play. Theme, music, and spectacle will be the focus in this essay, but that is not to say each aspect does not have a role in the show. Wicked presents the aspects of drama in a way that an audience remembers.…

Enter from stage right slowly making his way to center stage looking around in amazement Jones Dawson looking equally confused and amazed. As a performer, one dreads receiving negative and bashing feedback. Unfortunately for Mr. Henry Irving, his namesake, Henry James had plenty of bashing to do. James conveys his irksome feelings towards Mr. Henry Irving’s Macbeth through his use of litotes, diction and expressive tone. With such reviews, one would be cautious to allow Henry James entrance to their play.…
At character level, Gerald is presented as a wealthy, respectable man although this interpretation changes as the play goes on. We see Gerald’s behaviour change drastically as the truth is revealed about his relationship with Eva smith (Daisy Renton), he begins to break down and tries to justify his actions which splits the audience’s views on him as he may be seen in a negative way by some.…

Contemporary Australian theatre mainly focuses on the reflection of the ‘real’ Australia and communicating to the audience real and modern issues/ideas that respond to the social climate and community. As well as that, CAT tries to give marginalized voices a voice that is heard. Cameron Malcher has used dramatic forms, performance styles, techniques and conventions such as symbolism, a setting that is everlasting, transformational acting and more. The use of these techniques explores the social and personal issues of suburban paranoia, identity and grief/loss. Although the play itself is not very much realistic, Malcher explores the issues in a way that can be performed so that the audience can understand these particular issues and view them in a serious and somber way.…
