Margaret Atwood was born shortly after the start of World War II. However, her family was not involved in the war. However, when she stopped going to northern Ontario and settled into a more regular education, she stopped writing and began to get a taste for home economics. This continued until high school, where she began writing again. She was encouraged by her aunt and teachers, and eventually made her decision to pursue writing as a lifetime career at the age of sixteen. As a teen, Edgar Allan Poe was her favorite author. After high school, she went on to earn “a BA from Victoria College, University of Toronto, and a MA from Harvard” (Academy of American Poets).
