Marine Corps Close Order Drill

Although close order drill was implemented to successfully win on the battle field, as technology begins to evolve the reasoning changes to mostly conduct ceremonies. A Marine Corps tradition I think that should be practiced more in my unit is close order drill. I can promote participation by having guided discussions, having competitions among the marines and recommending them to participate in special ceremonies. Some Marines are uneducated on why drill is still a part of our tradition and why it is expected for them to be proficient. The only memory most of them remember about drill is the stressful thirteen weeks as a recruit. According to Second Lieutenant Rider’s article, drill instills discipline when it is executed correctly. The same Marine who is undisciplined would be the same Marine who would give away our position to the enemy. I would give a guided decision to the Marines who feel drill is useless, dislike the function overall or got traumatize in boot camp. Would it make a difference and change their views if
Not only are we representing our unit, the Marine Corps but United States as well. Color Guard is the most executed drill that is conducted in most of our ceremonies, I would want to send my top four perfectionist to successfully complete the event. Marines are fortune enough to meet different ambassadors, Secretary of State and even the president at the ceremonies. Most of the time they receive letter of recommendations, photographs and a coins to show appreciation. According to previous MSG’s, after successfully completing the program they was fortune enough to gain a career because of all the letter of recommendation they have received after meeting key personals. Knowing how to drill leads to more than having days off, it leads to other opportunities
