Since the regime feared that the citizens would be corrupted by the old forms of laws, the regime eliminated the old laws and forced the people to abide by the new order the regime established. For example, while Marjane was in school they taught the students that the King was chosen by God to rule. However, the King actually came to power by a deal he made with the British to have power in return for the oil. After a later period of time, Marjane and her classmates are then told to tear out all of the pictures of the King out of their textbooks when his reign was over. The new changes in the government caused the education system to be inconsistent because there was not a standard guideline for what was to be taught in the education system. The war also caused economic issues in Iran. The value of Iran currency decreased in value from seven Trumans to the dollar to one hundred and ten Trumans to the dollar. During his reign the people were led to believe that he was chosen by God to come to power. However, Shah was actually an uneducated low-ranking officer. He had a strong desire to overthrow the Persian Emperor in order to control the economic wealth of Persia’s oil. When the British heard of Shah’s desire, they agreed to help Shah attain his goal as long as the British were in control of Persia’s oil. Unlike Iran’s previous rulers, Shah was very harsh and he did not keep his promises to the people. Since there was a dramatic change in the way Iran was ruled the people began to revolt which caused the revolution. After Shah’s departure in 1979, the second major revolution took place. The radical Islamic regime was a revolution after Shah’s reign where many people gathered in to small private groups to fight for what they believed was right during this time of the revolution. Many people patrolled the streets making sure they caught anyone who was not abiding by the new laws. These two revolutions were highly dangerous.
