Which segment you believe you would fall in to and why?

The Sustainability Passion Index (SPI) is a segmentation model from The SHIFT Report, which is made up of five unique SPI segments based on people’s level of environmental consciousness. After a careful analysis of the five SPI segments, I believe I’d fall into the category of The Casual Spectator. Although it’s important to note that not all characteristics of The Casual Spectator express what I personally care about, it’s obvious, at least to me, that of the five segments presented in the Shift Report this is the one that most accurately pertains to me.
According to the SPI, The Casual Spectator is someone who adopts a ‘me first’ attitude, while still showing concern regarding CSR issues, sustainability and The New Variables. In terms of environmental issues and social responsibility I’m not one to go above and beyond to take care of the environment such as vocalize my concerns or take part in global rallies etc. However, I am someone who will abide by what I consider general societal rules. I’m somewhat environmentally conscious and do my part by recycling when possible, stopping others from littering and being as ‘green’ as possible.
Casual Spectators also prefer to spend their time connecting with friends and family, but being actively involved in the community is more of a priority. This somewhat relates to me as I’m someone who puts being in the company of others as a precedence over community involvement, granted I still attempt to involve myself with local events and fundraisers. Although I do try to involve myself in the community, I rarely concern myself with particular issues on a local or even global scale, which ties in as a characteristic of a Casual Spectator. Another trait of the Casual Spectator, though it’s not critically important, is a preference to live a well-balanced lifestyle, which also includes being well-paid and treated with

    An individual can be active in sports one or all of the following three different ways; they can be a participant, an in-person spectator, and/or a viewer on television or radio. According to the 2015 Participation Report by the Physical Activity Council (2015), of the 292 million Americans that are age six and older, 209 million are active participants in some type of sports activity. In a 2008 report, Humphreys and Ruseski reported that 277 million tickets were sold to fans who attended games at one of 26 major U.S. sports in 2005 (p.13). They also cite the National Sporting Goods Association report on television viewership.     Many people would agree that they would rather go to a sporting event rather then watching it on television. But on the other hand some would prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home. In the past decade or so, media has opened up new opportunities for spectators. When we watch sports on television the images and messages we hear are designed to heighten the content. By staying in and watching the game on television the viewer can see different camera angles, close-ups, slow motion shots, play by play description and so on. If one were to attend a sporting event they would not have the luxury of all that, but what they would have is the experience of being there. Mind you, most facilities now do have screens where the fans can see replays and so forth. Another possibility may be installing in the seats a place to insert headphones to listen to commentary (like in a plane). Being at a sporting event, we able to be part of a group (spectators), being able to smell the grass, smell of the ice. Enjoying the taste of a hotdog and a cold beer. There is an excessive amount of media coverage that is going on in the sports industry. The commentators are constantly advertising things.     What characteristics make up a true fan? They are not just someone who paints their body in their team’s colors. Just because someone is mental enough to make themself look ridiculous does not mean that they are a true fan. A true fan is someone who has been exposed to their team for as long as they can remember. They have to be exposed to a particular team from an early age and stick by that team even if the team is terrible. What it is supposed to be is “an allegiance or devotion to a particular team that is based on the spectator’s interest in the team that has developed over time.” Fans are supposed to bond with their team with certain psychological factors that include satisfaction (expectations met, self-connection (a person’s identity), intimate connection (the desire to continue a deep relationship to the end), and emotional achievement. The term fan refers here to the emotionally committed "consumer" of sports events. Further into the social aspects of the fan of a successful team, "fanship is empowering, generating passion and pleasure. It provides social prestige and self-esteem, a form of cultural capital that many fans otherwise might not have.” It is not just a matter blending in. It becomes a self-esteem issue. The idea of winning becomes a social issue rather than a competitive issue.
