Martin Luther King's Dream Speech

The Dream Speech Martin Luther King’s famous speech, “I Have a Dream”, impacted many people in 1963 and it still impacts people today. Watching the inauguration of our first black president on Tuesday was an amazing feeling; the feeling that anything is possible in America. Forty six years later and Dr. King’s dreams are beginning to come true. People of all different colors came together on Tuesday to watch a nation that will be forever changed. Dr. King’s dream of having everyone come together and forget about the color of their skin became a reality this Tuesday. Racism still exists and it will always exist. Some people will never change even if it is for the better. I agree with Dr. King on seeing one another as brothers and sisters; brothers and sisters that want to help each other grow and love one another for who they are. We need to start helping each other rather than killing one another. I would like to live in a world where we all look out for each other and treat each other equally. Reading and hearing stories of violence everyday saddens me. Every time I open a newspaper or turn on the news there is always at least one person killed that day. People need to realize killing isn’t a solution to their problems. Plus the problem they’re dealing with
King said in his speech, “we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back”, this is basically saying the past is the past and we should look forward for a better future. I think this is something everyone needs to apply to their life, to change for the better we must forget the past occurrences. We need to forgive and forget. Forgiving may be tough, but we should at least be able to forget. The past can not be changed so why continue to look back when we should look forward? People in today’s society must learn from their mistakes made in the past and they should apply that knowledge to the future. Dwelling on the past will not benefit the future; therefore people need to look ahead for an improved
