Mary Cassatt Early Childhood Analysis
Mother and Child sculpture was made between the 15th and 20th century. The culture of this piece of art that is made out of wood represents Bamana people. This wooden sculpture of a mother and a child on her lap represents a male companion and related attendant figures. As I look as this piece of art I see that a woman is wearing a “hat” of some sort that could represent her culture. This artist used a smooth texture on the surface of this wooden sculpture. Some parts look a little rough, but that might be due to the grain in the wood. The color of the wood comes across as a darker colored wood, more than likely stained or treated. This piece of is 48 and 5/8th inches high and 14 and 7/16th inches wide. This mother has her child on her lap …show more content…
This piece of art is known to be a print, even though I first thought it was a painting. This print is similar to the wooden sculpture above because there is a woman holding a child and sitting on a chair. Although, this woman is fully clothed, while the child is not. Looks to be that this print was taken in a house, specifically in a bedroom due to a bed in the background. This artist used a smooth texture on the surface of the print, just like most prints are. It is stated that this print is a dry point, aquatint, and soft-ground etching, and printed in color from three different plates. The colors are very bright due to the orange-ish color used. This piece of art is 14 and 3/8ths by 10 and 9/16th of an in.
This woman has her child on her lap and is holding her with two hands, one by the neck and another under the butt. It seems like the women might be rocking the child to calm him or her. This piece of art is also very detailed but does not show much of a cultural figured. There isn’t much detail on the child, besides the hair because his or her does not have any clothes on. The area of focus includes a bench that the women is sitting on and the black hair the women has. There no clothes provided on the child, so that was also an area of focus. I cannot tell from just looking at the print if the women is the mother or a nanny or what title she

This print is similar to the wooden sculpture and the print above because there is a mother holding a child and sitting on a chair. Although, this women and the child are both is fully clothed. Looks to be that this painting was done a house due to a bed in the background. As I look as this piece of art I see that the mother is wearing a dress that represents her culture in Paris, France. This artist used a smooth texture on the surface this painting, just like most paintings are. You can tell, due to all the colors and all the detail that this painting took a lot of time to do. This painting is mainly made up of cooler colors, besides the orange dress. This piece of art has a height of 1.1 years and a width of 0.9 years. This women has her child on her lap and is holding her with two hands right under the arm. Unlike the other two piece of art, this painting is a self-portrait and the mother is smiling. Due to this painting probably taking a while to paint, the mother might have rocked the child to calm her and have her sit still. This piece of art is also very detailed and shows a lot of cultural figured on the mom. There isn’t much detail on the child because of her age. The child does have a dress on, but it is hard to tell what it looks like. There is a lot going on in the painting and I don’t think there is just one focus point. However, as I first looked at this picture

The piece of Art, Smiling Girl, a Courtesan Holding an Obscene Image, painted by Gerrit van Honthorst in 1625 can be seen at the Saint Louis Art Museum. I was initially drawn to this image from across the gallery mostly due to the subject’s bright red dress with gold sleeves, it was one of the brightest colored images in the gallery. It is about three feet tall and two feet wide, it is an oil on canvas painting. As I approached the image, I was still intrigued as the image she is holding is of a naked man facing away, the subject in the painting seems to get enjoyment from this. To me this piece of art makes me curious, I want to know who this woman was and why she is holding that image. The artist seems to be communicating the importance of…

The piece of art I choose is from Sentimental Deprivation by Casey Weldon. Casey’s Sentimental Deprivation went on display June 24,17. The piece is very eye catching. It is dark and cloudy the sky is blue but the clouds are pink. There is a group of women there is about 7 of them. One is significantly smaller and on the floor wither hand on her face as she tries to block the light hitting her face. All of them are wearing the same clothes, have dark hair and red eyes. One of them has pink and blue beams and is looking straight at the one girl on the floor. Although they are very similar I think they might be different heights, body types and faces or facial expressions. At first when I saw the painting it made me think of anxiety it also made…

This sculpture falls in the modern art category and the style is abstract expressionism. This sculpture is very large it is actually 110cm. The artist that created this sculpture was one of the many fine French Sculptors, he was one of the younger generation who started out as a Symbolist painter as well as a tapestry designer but he got an eye disease around the age of 40 and he had to give these things up but then found love for sculpting . This artist had a love for Greek sculpture but he rejected some of what it stood for. This piece of work symbolizes some sort of emotion from an older more mature female, she seems to be thinking about something going on in her life or maybe even crying out for help, the position that the woman is in ( elbow on the left leg which is raised, other hand touching the ground and head down) shows us that this woman is clearly trying to gain some sort of comfort.…

The art piece is representational, the lines are sharp and there are various and different shapes. The texture is smooth and there has been more than one colour that has been used in the painting. The tone shows that the sun is on him even though there is no sun shown in the portrait. Space and depth has been used as you can tell the objects are further away and the ones that are closer up and in detail.…

Short essay Wangechi Mutu and Shirin Neshat, are two powerful female artists with strong motives and messages behind their artworks. Even though these two women share the same message, they have very divergent styles of converting their message into art. Shirin Neshat’s powerful photographs and video installations illuminate the gender and cultural conflicts of her native Iran, she published a series of artworks called Women of Allah that overall broke every stereotype based on women, the artwork “Rebellious Silence”, a woman is pictured in a religious lookin like appareil, the artwork portraits the woman holding a rifle, but since the rifle is positioned vertically it gives off a relaxed vibe even though it should be representing something like stress or chaos/havoc. The portrait is…

This painting by Henry Ossawa Tanner has many great aspects visually that make it one great piece of art work. The painting is of a old black man that may be a former slave is teaching a young black child how to play the banjo, an instrument from the African culture. (banjo) It almost gives a feel that the young child is the older gentleman’s grandson. They are sitting on a chair and the young child is sitting in his lap looking at the banjo.…

At the El Paso Museum of Art I saw many beautiful and wonderful paintings and sculptures but the “The Portrait” was the sculpture that caught my attention the most. “The Portrait” was sculpted by Frances Bagley an American artist born on April 7, 1946 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Frances Bagley lives and works in Dallas, Texas. “The Portrait” was created in 1997 and it is made out of stainless steel and marble. I believe that “The Portrait” is an interesting piece of art because it resembles exactly what the title says. It is a portrait of a the artist or a portrait of woman. The sculpture has shape and contour which is the shape of a woman like in a night gown. The sculpture has mass. It also has texture because in the stainless steel you can see that is shine and smooth and the marble is not finish so you can see that is rough. It has color because even if the marble is rough it has different colors. It has proportion and scale in the part of the body from top to bottom as well it does have the proper scale to simulate a woman sitting down. “The Portrait” has design, unity, and aesthetic because the whole piece is appealing to eye since it resembles the shape of a woman with the different pieces of rough marble place inside of the stainless structure and even if the materials does not have a glamorous touch the sculpture does captivate the viewers attention because of its has beauty. But most important the portrait has content and iconography because the piece is portraying a woman that is always beautiful even in her simplest form and it also resembles the meaning that a woman has in society as a strong person because it gives life to their children and as the foundation of the family. In my opinion The Portray has the meaning of what a woman is. She is hard as stainless steel because she knows that she always have to be there as an inspiration for her family or her children. She…

In this artwork, there is a woman wearing a cloth covering her entire body and a basket on her head. The photograph is in black and white, which illustrates a self-portrait of an Indian Lady. This tells us that the woman is an important person during her time of her life. Also, it shows that the lady plays a motherly role, holding a basket, such as fetching water for cooking, washing the clothes for her children and her beloved husband. This photograph may tell us that women are determined, caring and independent and they will go an extra mile of protecting their…

The materials used to create this artwork include oil, silk screened ink along with photo screen. (MSN) The oil allowed Rauschenberg to blend the colors directly on the canvas. He also piled up the oil thickly giving it a ruff textured look. The oil also allows the painting to have shadows. Photo screen is used with familiar images such as the statue of liberty along with Michelangelo’s “Last Judgment.” “Rauschenberg would screen in art reproductions, images from newspapers, and anonymous photographs of city scenes.”(Art & Culture) The photo screening gives the art work…

Every artist has their own interpretation, style, and meaning for any subject they paint, and as for the Madonna and child, Giovanni di Paolo and Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (Raphael) have only showed the viewers one of the many depictions of these religious icons. In 1427, Giovanni depicted Mary and the child with tempera and gold leaf on a panel known as The Branchini Madonna. In the painting, Mary is painted with a gold crown surrounded by wings from angels on her sides as well as holding her off the ground. She is painted carrying baby Jesus on her lap while looking off into the distance or towards the audience. At the top of the piece, our father is painted with wings around him also. The painting represents the Virgin Mary and Christ in…
