Mary Magdalene being full of sorrow stood weeping outside the tomb of Jesus. Mary looked into the tomb with watery eyes and there were two angels sitting where the body of Jesus had been laid. The angels ask Mary a question, Woman, why are you weeping?” Mary replied, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”
Mary turn her tearful eyes from the angels and seen a man she did not recognize as Jesus. Jesus said to Mary, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Mary replied, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said “Mary!” Mary recognized Jesus and she said, “Rabbouni!“ (Teacher) Mary went from sorrow to profound joy. Mary must have wanted to reach out and hold Jesus as he said to her. , “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene with a very happy heart went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to

She often compares herself to people in the Bible. When she was younger she had trouble with spiritual accounts. For this she brings up 2 Corinthian 12. 9. This scripture tells that God's grace is enough for her. Then later she brings up Job 1. 15 that says “And I only am escaped alone to tell the News(221).” This scripture is significant to Mary because she feels as though she was alive because she was chosen to tell of the events that occurred during King Philip's War.…

Mary Stuart was born in 1542; 50 years after Columbus found America. She was born, of course, in Scotland. Sadly, Mary's life was brought to an end on February 8, 1586 at the age of forty-four because of her religious beliefs as a Catholic. Her death bill was actually signed by her own cousin, Elizabeth I of England, who at first was against it but was soon convinced by her own benefits of her cousin's death, such as gaining the Scottish throne, that it must be done. Mary Stuart never had the chance to meet her father, James V of Scotland, but James V had caught wind of the birth of his daughter just before his own death. She still had her mother, Mary of Guise, though.…

The prophecy of the coming Messiah, who was sent by God and sacrificed for all the sins of the world as well as the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary are two of the most popular stories of the Bible. The story of Jesus’ journey on earth began with the appearance of the angel Gabriel to Mary as she was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. The angel informed Mary that God chose her to be the mother of the Son of God (History of Jesus Christ, n.d.).…

Born November 12, 1666 in England, Mary Astell was the first British feminist writer, nonfiction writer, essayist, and poet. Her published work consisted of argumentative issues about women's education, marriage, and political and religious philosophy. Specifically relating to the status of women, Astell thought about numerous controversial concerns of the era in her essays and pamphlets which were distributed anonymously to keep her identity a secret. Astell stood for her belief that women should not be obligated into marriage and helped the thought of a Protestant equivalent of a convent, where unmarried women could be able to devote themselves to education and religious responsibilities, in such pamphlets as "A Serious Proposal To The Ladies For The Advancement Of Their True And Greatest Interest" (1694) and "Some Reflections Upon Marriage" (1700). In addition to, Astell showed herself to be a perceptive critic of the social theories of, The Father of Liberalism, John Locke, in "Some Reflections Upon Marriage" and other writings, involving "The Christian Religion As Profess'd By A Daughter Of The Church Of England" (1705). Astell was a complicated figure whose approval of the monarchy and the Anglican Church is every now and then seen as contradictory to…

I believe that as a practical component of my faith, I am called to incarnate “the hands and feet of Christ” at the invitation of the Carmelite nun, Teresa of Avila. I am called both to believe with my mind, but also with my actions. The tomb was and is empty. Its silence begs all believers to boldly proclaim the deafening story of the cross and the everlasting life found in Christ Jesus. It also calls us to model this abundance with action, offering physical support for the “least of these” in Matthew 25. In this way, my calling is to tell the Gospel story of salvation in word and action.…

The epistemic physicalist thesis ‘Mary’s Room’ is a theory based on knowledge that argues against physicalism that was developed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism is the view that the universe, including all that is mental, is entirely physical. The main goal of Mary’s Room theory is to try to establish that there are non-physical properties and attainable knowledge that can be discovered only though conscious experience. In this thought experiment, Mary is described as a very intelligent scientist who is forced to experience the world in a room, from a black and white television monitor. She has never directly experienced color in her entire life although she is capable of such.…

Secondly, Kempe describes the scene where she prophesies about the child Mary being the future Mother of God: “And than sche seyd to the blyssed child: ‘Lady, ye schal be the modyr of God. ’(Windeatt 75-76).” In this passage, we have a Virgin Mary, whose future role as ‘Mother of God’ is prophesied by her servant Margery Kempe. Yet, the Gospel says that, the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she is going to “conceive” and “bring forth ... the Son of the Highest” (Luke 1: 31-32). What is interesting in Kempe’ s account here is that the perspective is slightly shifted: instead of focusing on Jesus, the son of God that is to be born of Mary, Kempe (Mary’s servant) insists rather on the future role of Mary as the ‘Mother of the Son of God’ whom…

The word “ayens” appears nineteen times within The Digby Mary Magdalene and has two specific connotations that correspond to ambiguities between God and authority within the play itself. Now in order to understand how this word resonates within the play it is crucial to explore one of its most frequent connotations, “in opposition to right (the law)” (MED). The earliest transcription of the Middle English word is within MS Laud 636, where it displays an opposition to authority/law by means of an opposition “agenes” the king for some sort of transgression: “on this kinges time […] agenes him rise sona tha ricemen […] hi the eorl heold Lincol agaenes the kingy (Fol. 089r, 090v c1135-40). It is evident therefore that Luke presents Mary in this passage as the Ark of the Covenant, as we can see from the parallel that he draws with the narrative of King David taking the Ark to Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 6. On the way, David and his men carry the Ark on an ox-cart to the holy city, one of the oxen transporting the sacred vessel stumbles in the road and one of the men present by name of Uzzah puts out his hand and takes hold of the Ark. But, “the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there because he put forth his hand to the Ark; and he died there beside the Ark of God” (2 Sam. 6:7). Frightened, David asked, “How can the Ark of the Lord come to me?” (v. 9). And David takes the Ark aside to the house of Obed-edom, where it stayed for three months before…
