Mary Martin was born on the first of December in 1913, She was born in WeatherFord, Texas. Martin won a small part in the musical Leave it to me, and won many Tony awards for The Sound Of Music, Peter Pan,and South Pacific.
Early Life-
Martin’s father, Preston, was a lawyer, while her mother, Juanita, was a violin teacher. Martin was interested in music and she even mimicked popular stars like Bing Cosby.
Martin had described her childhood to be very happy. When she was young, she had to be sent to a strict finishing school in Tennessee. She eventually grew homesick. She named him Larry. He grew up to become an actor and was well-known. Martin’s sister, Geraldine, was the one to suggest she teach dance later in her life. This inspired Martin to open her own dance studio in Mineral Wells,Texas.
Later on, Martin’s dance studio got burned down by a man who thought that dancing was sinful. Around this time, Martin’s father encouraged her to end her marriage and she left for Hollywood. She left her husband and son behind.
Mary Martin earned the name “Audition Mary” because she never missed an opportunity to perform a job. At one of these auditions, composer Oscar Hammerstein the second hear her sing. This would help her launch her legendary Broadway career. She later collaborated with Oscar.
In 1938, Mary had made her Broadway debut in Cole Porter’s “Leave it to Me.” She became an overnight success for singing, “My Heart Belongs to Daddy,” which at the time was famous.The song was meant for Martin because when her career launched, her dear father had slipped into a coma and died.
She went on with her career and made a series of Broadway smash hits. She won Tony Awards for playing Nellie Forbush in Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s 1949 production South Pacific. Mary also starred opposite Robert Preston in 1966’s I Do! I Do! She was a Broadway star and has made theater

I think Mary Martin was an amazing person. She did a lot of things and made a lot of money. She is one of my idols because she showed me that i could do and be anything i wanted to be, weather it be a singer, dancer, or movie star.
