Marywood University's Five Core Values
I believe that each person, regardless of their personal circumstances or upbringing, is put on this earth for a purpose. Everyone has the opportunity to bring unique talents, abilities, and insight to the situations they encounter. In order to fully comprehend and appreciate this sense of individuality, one must have respect, which makes up one of Marywood University’s five core values. I have always made a point of respecting the people around me, and I think I this can partially be attributed to my Catholic identity, which happens to be another one of Marywood’s core values. Over the duration of my time at Marywood, my goal is to more deeply pursue my Catholic identity and to continue to show respect to those around me and anyone that I meet. …show more content…
It is described as “honoring the uniqueness and dignity of each human person”, and that is something that I seek to accomplish every day. I have always classified myself as an optimist. I am constantly looking on the bright side of every situation, good or bad, and seeking out the best qualities in the people around me. I know that God created every single person with unique traits that play crucial roles in the lives of many, whether the person is aware of it or not. Whether it is a stranger I pass on the street, a person I just met, or someone I have known for years, I always find it easy to see the good qualities that others posess. In showing respect for others, it becomes easier to myself as a respectable person. I believe that practicing respect and positivity on a daily basis allows us to become more mindful and conscientious

From past experiences I have learned the real meaning of respect. This word is more powerful than one can imagine. With respect comes unselfishness. When people respect others, they are treated equally. My mother and father always told me to be tactful in the way I treated others, so I would also be respected. It has worked in the past and will always hold true in the future. If someone respects another with proper judgment, people feel good inside which gives them a sense of integrity. When I give respect and witness how it makes others feel, I feel like more of a person. I feel proud. Honored.…

Many things come into place when it comes to defining a person, place or thing. Here at Saint Leo University we have what defines the school itself, Core Values. The core values consist of six essential characteristics that help both the school, and the alumni, become a better community. The six core values come as follows: Excellence, Community, Respect, Personal Development, Responsible Stewardship, and Integrity (SLU Mission and Values). As great as they all sound, the three that I have chosen, primarily due to the fact that they caught my attention, are Excellence, Personal Development, and Respect.…

A great example of treating people with respect is bullying. Bullying happens all the time at all times of the day. People bully people in school, on the internet, and even at home. Sometimes the bully has the motive to hurt people and break someone else down because they are hurting on the inside themselves. The way they express themselves is the wrong way to do it, but it happens. I remember in school, they always said that a bully becomes a bully when they, themselves had been bullied. It is a serious matter these days because people hurt themselves for being bullied. That goes back to my point where I said that it could impact someone life.…

What does respect mean to you? To me, respect means following the golden rule. It means treating others with kindness, love, generosity, and having polite manners. “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” That is the golden rule, is it not? Who wouldn’t want to be treated with kindness? Who wouldn’t want to be around someone with manners and cleanliness? Respect is being considerate to others and their feelings and beliefs. Respect isn’t just for others though, you need to respect yourself as well; take care of yourself and be presentable. If you would like to be treated with respect, you, first, need to learn to respect yourself and others. Once that is accomplished, others will learn to respect you.…
