Coast Gaurd Essay Example
I have always wanted to join a United States Armed Force to protect my people of my country. The reason I want to join the A.I.M. program is to get the opportunity to be a part of one of the country’s most elite military academies. I have always wanted to rescue people in need. I am a swimmer and love the water. My dream is to be on a boat with my commander and crew, and to protect my country. I will be committed to whatever the tasks are that the A.I.M. program puts me through. I think this program will show me more about being a leader, what the Academy has in store for me, and what it takes to be a part of the United States Coast Guard. The United States Coast Guard is an exclusive, protective and dependable force in the defense and protection of our country. This force guards our citizens from many evils, both stateside and abroad. The members of the Coast Guard follow a specific code that allows them to serve this country with courage, decisiveness and enthusiasm. This code consists of only three feelings: Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. I capitalized those words because they are not just words, they are a way of life. From past experiences I have learned the real meaning of respect. This word is more powerful than one can imagine. With respect comes unselfishness. When people respect others, they are treated equally. My mother and father always told me to be tactful in the way I treated others, so I would also be respected. It has worked in the past and will always hold true in the future. If someone respects another with proper judgment, people feel good inside which gives them a sense of integrity. When I give respect and witness how it makes others feel, I feel like more of a person. I feel proud. Honored. Honor, though, can also mean respect; however, it has a much broader meaning. To be honored is immense. Honor starts with an individual and leads up to a group or organization. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, West Point,

A great example of treating people with respect is bullying. Bullying happens all the time at all times of the day. People bully people in school, on the internet, and even at home. Sometimes the bully has the motive to hurt people and break someone else down because they are hurting on the inside themselves. The way they express themselves is the wrong way to do it, but it happens. I remember in school, they always said that a bully becomes a bully when they, themselves had been bullied. It is a serious matter these days because people hurt themselves for being bullied. That goes back to my point where I said that it could impact someone life.…

Respect means a lot of different things for different people. It includes taking someone’s feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration. It also means taking all of these seriously and giving them value. In fact, giving someone respect seems similar to valuing them and their thoughts and feelings. It also includes recognizing them, listening to them, being truthful with them, and accepting them as an individual. Respect can be shown through actions and it can also be felt. We can act in many ways that are considered respectful, but we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow. Respect once played a important role in our daily lives and our survival. If we think of a tribe walking in the desert we can think that a person not respected by anyone would be left behind to die and that person was considered to have no importance or value in the group. In today’s time it seems much more possible- to be able to survive without being respected. Someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many workers and salesmen constantly calling him on the daily basis and catering to him, and yet not one of his workers respected him at all. Someone could also make a large amount of money through having one or more talents which are valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball or being able to sing like Whitney Houston yet that person is still disrespected, perhaps because of the way that person treats others. When we are respected we gain the voluntary cooperation of many people. We don’t have to use as much of our energy and resources trying to get our needs met. When people respect one another there are fewer conflicts and there is a lesser chance of someone not taking the other seriously. In…
